Q: what is high priority news?

While there seem to be differing opinions, the advice I see being given to beginners like myself is to avoid trading around times of high priority or high impact news. My understanding is that these are periods of high volatility and it is hard to predict the direction the market will go in, even if it is only a temporary aberration.

I know that there are too many one off events that could occur to list, but I was wondering if there are some scheduled events that can be listed here as things to watch for for the benefit of beginners like myself.

Cheers.

Most brokers, and babypips as well, tend to categorise them as High, Medium, or Low Impact news events for you
You can often filter out events that you don’t want to see, although I wouldn’t advise that to begin with

What I mean is, what kinds of specific events are categorized as “high”? I know that there are going to be some that one-offs or special is more particular way, but what are the regular events that can be identified as “high” impact or “potentially high” impact events?

I must consider, NFP and FOMC. By the way, news trading is always challenging, it requires huge trading knowledge & strong mental power as well.

I can’t say what your broker will show, but mine is pretty much the same as babypips.
Search for the Economic Calendar here and have a look. Then compare with your own broker.
