Question on MT4 use

This platform seems to have almost everything, but the “user manual” is a waste of good memory space. Furthermore, it doesn’t seem to have the visual options the VT Trader on CMS has. I wish I could change the chart background to something other than black or white----any way to do that?? How about scrolling the chart UP & DOWN—I can’t figure that one out either. Do they (IBFX) have an “online help” button that I am missing? On the other hand, it has some cool stuff that doesn’t exist on the VT, so it has potential to be better if I can figure some of these things out.

Any tips???

Got the chart background thing figured out.

for a “form” of scrolling, place the cursor into the price area, hold down the button on the mouse and move the mouse up or down.

if you have a “scroll wheel” on your mouse, simply use it using the above techniques !

Had already tried that—only changes the vertical scale, really. What I’m refering to is when the current price is down near the bottom/top of the chart. I hate that, and wish to move it into the center of the chart, where I can clearly see it, without changing anything else.

you are a FUSSY kinda guy, aint you ??

but while setting up a chart system that spies on you the Russians also threw that feature into the mix, probably to appease USA traders that all info about your trading was going to Putin’s desk !

go to chart properties and on the left you find “scale fix”

check “scale fix” and a yellow dot appears on your chart on the vertical price line seperator — SLIDE that yellow dot with your cursor and you gots what you want.

the settings for “scale fix” are adjustable, so do your heart good and play with it all weekend !

[I]Within the great hall at Elfinore stands a wondrous coffer, precisely four cubits square and securely latched against the outside world. Inside that repository, shut away from impertinent eyes, abides many an intriquing trading secret garnered from around the world and over the ages !

As a child, i used to watch from the darkness as the secrets were debated and annotated by the elders. No one there held a single thought of my presence – BUT I KNOW WHERE THEY HID THE KEY !!

Ya, I guess so. Be careful, or I’ll start correcting everbody’s spelling! LOL

Thanx mp, I’ll try that.

OK mp, I did it and it works, EXCEPT my dot ain’t yellow. :frowning: How do I make it yellow with the little “Suzuki” symbol in black and red inside of the dot, and the whole thing surrounded by a purple polka-dot border?

Potaire

Thanx for the tip, mp.

LOL

Potaire

you have exhausted my range of knowledge on this alleged “subject” and i must bow to higher powers ----- there is a forumn on the meta trader’s owner’s website, and buried deep within its subject matter may well be an answer to your engrossing question.

while i cannot state that i enthusiastically endorse your color scheme totally, the suzuki symbol is a good touch and should provide you hours of entertainment while trading, especially if you can animate it and watch suzuki videos at the same time !

good luck finding the answer, and i do mean GOOD LUCK !

LOL

Outstanding idea!!!

This brings up a similar charting question. Is there a way to do this horizontally? So, I can have the current price at the center of the screen and blank space ot the right?

A lot of times when I’m trying to draw trend lines or set up fibs my mouse catches the edge of the screen and I end up murdering the trend line and or latching on to something else.

Yes, you can do that.

Use the chart shift function. It’s a tiny arrow on the top border of the chart space. Grab it and pull it to the left to create more empty space to the right of the last bar.

Best regards

Nevermind, found it. It was under properties, “chart shift.” …now all is right with the world

Allow me, mp. This one I DO know!!! lol

Look on your toolbar up top—see the 2 magnifying glasses?? Well, the button to the immediate right of those glasses is the “auto-scroll”, which will always return the chart to the current time–i.e. the present end of the chart. The NEXT button is the “Chart Shift” button. When you hit it a very small triangle will appear on the top of the chart. You can click-and-drag this triangle to the center of the chart if you wish. Then, the end of the chart will go no further to the right than the triangle.

And yet another MT novice user question for this esteemed knowledge base.

Is it possible to set the charts time to display correct time in my time zone CST (Chicago)? Tried to look it up in the helps and in the menus cannot seem to find a way to do it.

so what do i say about LEARNING ---- its a constant ongoing process by golly

now i gots arrows, drag, little icons and all kinds of ways to move a chart around when i want it to be absolutely still !

will wonders never cease ?

LOL

mp

ask your broker–if he is in europe then gmt is what you will get- may be you can chnage the server time but best to ask the broker

OK mp, I have a few more questions for ya—

 1. How do you make “current price” line thicker/different color?

 2. How do you make the “position” line thicker/different color?

3 Make the “position lable” larger than microscopic?

 1. Change the pair in a chart without creating a whole new chart?

The powers that be are heavily biased towards Kawasaki, and only have a “K” to put inside of the dot.

Potaire

1., 2. AND 3. Click on the properties of the line and chose color and style

4-drag and drop the pair on th left navigator onb to your chart that will change the pair and not the chart

OK, #4 was easy enough. I am struggling with finding the “properties” for a line. All I get is the generic menu with “properties” at the very bottom, and I can get this menu anywhere I right-click. What am I missing, Tex???
