Question re. MetaQuotes/MetaTrader

Is it possible to receive real time currency quotes from MetaQuotes directly without using a broker? I have an MT4 demo & live accounts through brokers but if I cancel them can I get quotes direct and free without a broker? I tried this morning but my live broker kept popping up as the serving platform. What I want to do is use an indicator for MT4 but trade with Oanda. Any ideas people? Thanks, dobro

You can ONLY access a real time data feed through a broker. Liquidity providers do not deal with retail forex traders, so even if you could get quotes from Metaquotes, they would be acting as a broker anyway.

Whats the problem with using a brokers datafeed anyway?

I need Oanda’s tight spread - usually 9/10 of a pip (unless there is news or unusual volitility) during the NY session on 4 prs that I follow and O. is Java so MT4 EAs, scripts etc. don’t work. And I really don’t want to set up an MT4 demo acct. just for their feeds. I’m not sure you are 100% correct in saying that one can only get a feed through a broker - I think I could subscribe to eSignal or some other to get the feed but then I don’t know if I could apply the EAs, etc. d.

Yeah, I realise you want to trade with Oanda. I was asking what the problem is with getting your Metatrader quotes through a broker?

And I really don’t want to set up an MT4 demo acct. just for their feeds.

Why not?

Kenny is right about only getting MT4 quotes through a broker, but you can get MT5 quotes directly from MetaQuotes… or at least you could last year when I tried it. Just download it from metaquotes.net

Personally I’ve always used an IBFX demo account with Oanda, but that’s just me.

Thanks Phil - and I believe when I 1st started this journey, longer than I care to admit, I demo’d with MetaQuotes but when I tried a few days ago it wasn’t possible. I will try the MT5 idea, thanks.
Is IBFX demo nonexpirying? I had a small live acct with them a year ago but their frequent requotes drove me nuts plus they either had server problems or it couldn’t handle peak loads at times and i just couldn’t get a trade entered. I do like their daily close time, Alparis is around midnight as I recall. Thanks for the reply, d
