Questions About Newsflow

Hi there!

I am a UK based trader. I’m interested to know where people feel they get the best newsflow from. Specifically in relation to:

1 – What TV station do you watch? Are there different stations that you will watch at different times of day, perhaps (i.e. one that is generally better for open and close and then another that is better for day to day news coverage)?
2 – What newspapers do you read? Presume most people get a copy of the FT? Anything else?
3 – How about online? I quite like The Guardian’s live news blog, I must admit. Don’t know whether there are better places to be paying attention to though.
4 – Does anyone get any value out of Twitter at all? If so, are there particular accounts that people find to be their preferred ones to follow, particularly in relation to FX?
5 – Do people think it is essential to get Bloomberg’s live news service/ a terminal, or if you are not fully professional yet then would a Dow Jones newswire give you enough to go on?
6 – When central banks and key government organisations make data announcements, do we actually have to rely on news companies to receive this information, or is there somewhere that we can access this information ourselves directly from those organisations?
7 – Any other news/ data resources / tools out there that people like to be hooked up to in order to plan and execute their trades?

Thanks!

News flow? Funny thing to call it. I don’t watch TV for news. Bloomberg and reuters are enough for financial news for me. I think that Bloombergs live tv would be an advantage but it is expensive. Dow Jones newswires are what you get on your broker news. If you really wanted to you could use talking forex where they read off Bloomberg and Reuters terminals the latest news - they can be biased on what they report on though. I don’t get any use out of twitter. Central banks do release information but normally take longer to place it on their own sites than news services do.
