Revalidating a strategy

As we all know the markets tends to shift a little from time to time, behave a little different from year to year and even sometimes from week to week. A lot of strategies are built on what the market has done before expecting that it will do the same again. I have strategies that perform awesome this year, but would have been totaly useless last year… What I wonder is, how often do you revalidate your strategy and tweek it to fit the market?

What is your strategy that work in this year?

Careful what you do here Tygma (maybe you want to set out a bit deeper what your problem is).

If you have a strategy that works really well in say a highly trending market, it will not work as well in a trendless market and no amount of tweeking will help. And when the market reverts to trending, you won’t any longer be using your original strategy.

But the greater danger is that you tweek the strategy to fit current circumstances but these are not well defined and still in development anyway. So you might immediately start to get good results but you have actually done no more than curve-fitting your strategy to suit a temporary set-up which will evolve away from your rules in 48 hours.
