Should or Shouldn't I use Oanda to Start (I'd like a service with a Python API)?

If I’m not going to use Oanda (they make it pretty easy to jump right in with a demo account) why should I use something else?

Also, since I can do Python programming, I’d like anything I use to be compatible with some sort of Python API as I’d like to eventually give a try at programming my own tools, at least for simpler things like placing and modifying orders.
