Starting the year off right - what's the one thing you're focusing on getting better at with your trading?

I feel like the holiday put a damper on my trading. I just wasn’t that into it so stepped away.

Now I’m coming back, feeling like I need to relearn some things, or just get my process down better. Like, Sunday, do some market research and do some trade setups for the week ahead.

Daily, make sure to check your trades once during the day and then in the evening after work.

What else…

What are you all focusing on to get better this year?

cash management

I plan to take more real trades when my setups occur.

Hmmm. This year, I hope to be more active and consistent. :open_mouth: I tend to be super busy with a lot of things that have to be done around the house that sometimes, I don’t even get the time to view my charts for a whole week. This year, I’ll try to be more consistent even in just checking out my charts every now and then. I don’t want to force trades, but I think it would help me a lot if I become more consistent in checking my charts.

same here, and being more patient to wait for the perfect entries

To enjoy a gainful trading voyage, a forex trader must try to perform all of his trading movements with the help of appropriate fund supervision. Along with fund management I favor to combine administration of risks that can help me to minimize my trading risks and maximize trading profit.

I felt the same way being I was on vacation and working from the laptop instead of my home office. I started reading up all day Saturday and my setups on Sunday. Getting better with my risk - reward. I had a 47% winning trade year, However I didn’t make to much more then what I started with. Continue working on my strategy and trade plan as I have changed them 4 times and this 4th one seems to be working out for me. last three weeks I made 983 pips which is more then Sep-Nov combined.

Tuning my trading plan / trading systems.

For a while, will focus more on consistency.

“…more active and consistent” Great! “…don’t want to force trades.” really wise.

But if your daily tasks don’t let you check your charts, what about changing the market you usually trade? Maybe trade the market that opens at the end of your day.

Ex: if you are in the US, you could trade the assian market times.

Hey Ria!
Have you started trading live?

This year, I would like to take more trades and spend more time trading, hopefully here on the forums also to learn from you guys.

Maybe I could give this a go. I have a day job, family, dogs, life, etc… need to make more room for trading. I need more time!!! Where can I get more of that?

The million dollars question: How to “buy” more time to accomplish all important tasks!

How about this:

Take 2 hours a week for your market analysis whenever you have some quite time available. Saturdays or sunday late at night. Here you also get the chance to check how your previous week went.

Monday and tuesday mornings, very early, check the market for possible entries. Maybe you will just have 1 hour or less for this. This could possibly be London market times.

Check your charts around lunch, and make any needed adjustments. Improve your skills on MetaTrader on your mobile phone or tablet, so you can multitask.

Maybe try aiming for swing trading instead of day trading (don’t even consider scalping) or even go for longer trades that could last more than a week. In this way you would open fewer orders a week, and you won’t have to spend that much time on the charts.

Your TP margins may be higher. 100 or 200 pips, depending on your trading plan. The drawback here would be that you need a bigger account, to maintain your risk level, cause your SL should be larger to give room for the week’s ups and lows.

Hope you can manage to do it. Best regards
