Surprised so much dollar index activity

I’m surprised there is so much dollar index activity this close to the Christmas holiday. I haven’t traded for a year prior to trading again a few weeks ago and don’t usually trade this close to the winter holiday season. I would have expected it to be pretty static.

I suspect it depends on the time-frame you’re using -
on the weekly, its impossible to tell the Christmas week from any other year on year
on the daily the daily ranges are pretty compressed during the holiday week but otherwise unremarkable
on the intra-day time-frames traders who work down there always say its dead from mid-December, not worth the time even trying to catch a move.

Depends on time frame definitely.

Also remember that just because there are less traders actively trading does not mean things will necessarily be “static” with less market participants (traders) there is often increased volatility. I.E A small order can cause a larger spike due to the lack of orders to “absorb” the impact if you will.

I don’t avoid trading the last two weeks of the year because there is no volatility but rather because the market conditions can just be unpredictable. This is quick to resolve once the new year begins though and I leave any already open swing trades open as on the weekly there isn’t much difference as @tommor pointed out.
