The goji system, for lack of a better name

chasing,

try this: on oanda

go to tools, i will be explicit as i am not sure how many others this may help. then “user preferences,” then “trading.” i have the following:

default bounds 10
default stop/loss 10
default take profit 12.9

below this, i have all boxes checked except “confirm position reversal.”

try this and let me know if we are on the same page!

goji, bernie

hi all,

there were no trade during the 3:00 pm session. this has put an end to a somewhat strange day.

daily total, +2.9

january total, 192.7

see you in the morning,

goji bernie

Bernie -

I appreciate your comments regarding the a.m. session because, well, I lost my you-know-what. The volitility and reversals from now on will be a warning sign. Thanks for the heads up, d.

Go Steelers! ( I lived in Dormont for 3 years in the late '60s and saw my 1st pro game in Pittsburgh - Steelers vs the Baltimore Colts (I think)) Otherwise I’m a Vikings fan.

Hello Bernie,

Well, I have “0” for bounds, tried “10” - got no changes regaring the SL - the platform still adds the spread to the planned SL of 10. What are those bouns, anyways?

C. - try clearing the Java cache. Java can be a little “funny” acting, which is what O. tech people told me, so clearing the cache is important. Dbl click the Java icon in Control Panel and even though it suggests only advanced users clear it, do so. And don’t hesitate to call O. support, they are very knowledgeable. d

Yes I am on oanda, what do you mean by get filled and where do I type in the 1.2345? When I click on order the price automatically comes up and is greyed out in the same box that I fill in the bound,SL & TP (which I have managed to set in my preferences). I will be away for a couple of days as weekend here is fri/sat so wont be able to try it till next week.

Jsut for interest, before I started getting interested in this I had alot of success manually trading GBP/USD at approx 3hrs before USA open. The range is huge and quite easy to anticipate the peaks and troughs jsut using 1 min chart. About 30 mins before the USA opens you should get out as then it starts to move big in either direction.
Have a look on the charts for yesterday tell me if you think it is a good time to use this stragedy i was regulary getting 25+ pips per trade but made a fatal mistake carrying on after USA opned

Sure I got it correct now…I have done a drawign of it in word which may be helpful to give to other in future and save all the questions too, hope its correct see attached…

hi all,

well, this morning did not start out well and it looked like it wanted to end poorly. so i have quit a little early today. the mid part of the morning was pretty good. i will be back at 3:00. i have some additional comments to make and will do so with the trades:

8:30 news

8:55 eos, 1.2965
8:55 short, 1.2965
8:55 exit, 1.2945, hit S/L, -10

9:35 eol, 1.2965
9:40 long, 1.2965
9:40 exit, 1.2968, had been to 1.2972, +3, -7

9:50 eos, 1.2940
9:55 canceled
9:55 eol, 1.2970
9:55 long, 1.2970
9:55 exit, 1.2982-9, hit TP, +12.9, +5.9

there was a huge spike up that enabled us to gather this very nice profit. the only thing that i am aware of that may have caused this spike was microsoft reporting very negative earnings. anyway, the spike was short lived and reversed, which provided another TP trade on the short side.

10:05 eos, 1.2945
10:07 short, 1.2945
10:07 exit, 1.2932-1, hit TP +12.9, +18.8

10:30 eol, 1.2965
10:35 canceled long
10:35 eos, 1.2930

10:36 canceled order short, price turned around again to the long side, and i decided it wasn’t worth it anymore. i had a profit, i eliminated the early negative, thus it was time for a break. i will be back at 3:00.

january’s total +211.5

hi dobro, chasing, philbot, et al,

here are some comments regarding recent questions and/or comments:

dobro, the steelers are really ingrained into to many here in w. pa. but i am always amazed by how many fans they seem to have all over the country. sorry to hear about your situation. as a retired teacher, i have no idea how sound my retirement is and social security is a mess. i am happy that i am being fairly successful with forex, but i hope it never gets to the point where i have to make certain amounts to survive. that’s pressure i can do without!

chasing, i really have no idea what the “bounds” stands for. that’s how i am set up on my system. please try what dobro has suggested and i hope it helps.

philbot, when i looked at g/u the last two days for about three hours into us stock market open, there seemed to be considerable movement up and down over the 10 ema. usually, this activity is not very good for this strategy. also, i may have some blocks on my computer but i was not able to bring up your file. i will play around with it to see if i can. finally, try this:

  1. right on your chart, move your pointer to the price you want to lock in
  2. once there, click
  3. a small box should come up
  4. click “limit buy or limit sell” depending on action
  5. then in big gray box, enter units
  6. click submit, which will lock in your price

later everybody,

g, b

Philbot44,

Thank you very much for showing the drawing. I have read thru all messages in this thread and still trying to understand and learn the goji system. The drawing really help alot.

gojilover,

Can you verify and confirm if the drawing is accurate and right on the ball? I have been a failure trading anything. So I stop trading anything…stocks, options, futures, etc. etc. I have opened an Oanda Demo account and will play with your goji system and try to master it before doing real trading. Thanks in advance.

P. - I don’t agree with your comment regarding the 1st candle; actually the comment accurately describes the 2nd candle where the wick shows that at one time the price was above the EMA but the close was below. Candle bodies show the open & close, the wick shows the high, the shadow shows the low. If you removed the 1st candle from the picture and used its description for the #2 (which would become the new #1) your excellent picture would be 100% spot on. thanks for the extra effort as we can use all of the help forum members can provide. What software did you use? d.

hi all,

what an afternoon? i am not going to list the orders entered and closed but there were several of them.

dobro, thank you for answering philbot. for some reason i can not bring his picture up.

i did get into one trade:

3:30 entered order long, 1.3010
3:38 long, 1.3010
3:39 exit, BE, had been to 1.3015-2

LEARNING MOMENT: yes, this afternoon was a little frustrating. however, i did not give any money back. had i been a little faster, i could have even garnered a pip. as such it was still a profitable day and i will be back in the morning.

goji, bernie

wow, that picture is COMPLETELY different than the way i have been trading the “goji” system, haha. I have been waiting for the entire candle to cross above/below the 10EMA, without its low/high even touching the ema line. i have had pretty good luck with this semi-goji system, just not very many trade signals happen like that as often as the actual close. i will try it like that next time i trade.

hi all,

db, check dobro’s recent response. unfortunately, i can’t bring the picture up. dobro feels it is flawed and right now. i think dobro has a pretty good handle on the system. note his comments about eliminating the first candle.

goji, bernie

I think perhaps d. has shown something that may benefit me and perhaps others. Obviously waiting for the whole candle to close across the EM is very safe but few and far between. I am going to use a rule of thumb to make sure a close is 3 pips above/below. I know we go to the next xx.0 or xx.5 but perhaps, and I’m not writing this in stone, a 3 pip or better close and then set up a limit order is safe. Comments - good, bad idea?

I also make sure the EMA is pointing from 12 o’clock to 2:00 or 4:00 to 6:00 o’clock so that there is a definite angle - I avoid a setup if the ema is pointing at 3:00, that’s sideways.

To those use to MT4, Oanda’s Limit order is the same as a Buy or Sell Stop Order in MT4. MT4 is useless for scalping or short time period trading IMO. d.

hi all,

first of all, let me say that i have no ego what-so-ever for any changes made if they will improve the system. the bottom line is still about profits and if any of us can make more, i am all fo it. in looking at dobro’s comments, at first blush i like the idea of the ema’s direction being at something other than 3:00. now, if the +/- 3 identifies more profitable trades, who am i to complain. after saying all of this, i went back to the three trades today and they all fell within the parameters of these suggestions. that is, they all finished 3+ points above or below the ema and in none of the cases was the ema pointing to 3:00. i will keep a vigil on the trades going forward to determine the success as i am sure some of you will. today’s trades:

8:15 eos, 1.2790
8:22 short, 1.2790
8:23 exit, 1.2785, had been to 1.2979-5 +5

8:55 eol, 1.2810
9:00 long, 1.2810
9:02 exit, 1.2812, had been to 1.2818, +2, +7

9:50 eos, 1.2835
9:50 short, 1.2835
9:52 moved S/L to 1.2842
9:54 moved S/L to BE
9:55 moved S/L to 1.2830
9:55 exit, 1.2830 +5, +12

january total, 223.5

have a great week end everyone,

goji, bernie

Hello Bernie, Dobro, everyone,

I traded my other system today and yesterday, I wish I did not. Lost a huuuge number of my faaaat pips.
So, from Monday will be back to the goji system only (if you agree to take me back:)) and will try to get my lost pips back little by little.

Dobro, it’s a great suggestion regarding +/-3p., though I’m not sure that the other point - “EMA not at 3:00” is quite enforcable. In real time it can be at 3:00, but later bend in the direction of the price. What do you think?
By the way, considering your nickname, are you in/from Russia? If you don’t mind me asking.

Best of luck to everyone and have yourself a great weekend.

Hello everyone,
d/ Well I am glad the drawing has shown that its not easy to explain in words, yes your right d, I have modified it slightly now see what you think, I also changed the 3rd candle and brought the candle close down to the dotted line. Was wondering if it was worth considering the % that the candle is below above the ema as opposed to the 3pm stratedgy but would have to monitor that too. Seems we are all looking for that extra signal that will help in know the candle will continue in same direction after crossing the ema, but if we knew that secret then it would be far too easy.

Bernie, if you still have problems send me your email and I will send it that way its probly your virus software not letting it open?
The 2 -3 hrs before are quite volotile I agree but you should notice it consistenltly moves in a wave like way… Lol Im struggling to describe it now nevermind…
Well I will try to trade it this week on demo I have been away for 2 days, well next city Abu dhabi where I use to work to see all me old friends there, not easy making new ones in Dubai such a big place, apart from that its too expensive to go out now!!

C. - No I’m not in or from Russia; another word for dobro is resophonic guitar which is as elusive to learn as forex. At my age you would think I would be smart enough to tackle only one large task at a time! And yes the 3:00 o’clock ema direction changes but in a ranging, sideways nontrend it hangs around for a while. The candles chaneling should be enough of an indication, the ema at 3:00 is just extra confirmation for me.

P. - I like you 2nd drawing very much and it should clear up any questions a newbie to this strategy would have. It should be a sticky along with B.'s 2nd posting (#307, pg. 8) of the rules.

Good trading to you all and enjoy the weekend. d. (And run your virus scan)

Dobro

A guitar? I had absolutely no idea!

There is an exactly the same word in Russian language, a good word with several meanings. It generally stands for “goodness”.
