THE JOY OF CANDLESTICK TRADING - Part 2

I’m going to try and set up my desktop the same way you have yours - one MT4 instance for each pair. I was not aware one could have multiple instances of a given trading platform launched; I never even tried previous to viewing your video.

The only problem I have is that I’m told that I cannot use MT4 with a micro account. This adds another layer of complexity in that I have to chart in one prog and place trades in another (sigh).

I don’t think you can run multiple instances of the same MT4 in Windows. I’m doing it with Linux.

I’m running my charts in one program and trading in another. It’s not so bad.

If you want to run multiple instance of MT4 on Windows (with the same account) you have to copy your existing MT4 installation folder (C:\program files…) and name it differently, MT4_2 or something like that. Shut down MT4 before u do it. Im running 4 instances of MT4 this way.

Aww you beat me to it!!!

I just tested this functionality on my Windows box and confirmed it works.

That is freakin’ awesome, Funky Jee! Why didn’t I think of that?

I wanted to check with you whether time frames such as 35m & 45m are available. I see that we have 20m 25m 40m only when we use the indicator that you posted. Running multiple instance of mt4 just by changing the name of the file indeed helps us to run more than one session. However, need to take care when we add indicators/templates etc as we must make sure we add it to the right mt4 folders. I too used to run multiple instances. I just put them in different paths and created short cuts in the desktop with unique names just to avoid confusion. Hope this helps.

Use this template instead of the one I provided earlier on the 5 minute chart to add 35 and 45. I simply added 2 new “period converter” indicators to the 5 minute chart with values of 7 and 9 respectively for the “multiplier”.

Edit: Reuploaded file.

Thank you my friend for the attachment. So I just remove the previous 5 minute template and load this one and when i go open offline, i should be seeing 35 and 45 minutes offliners in addition to the regular other offline charts. Is my understanding right ?

Thanks in advance.

I am able to get 35m and 45 m now on the charts. Thank you so much. Your help is sincerely and humbly appreciated.

Correctamundo

(apparently “Correct” was too short for the forum to accept :o)

Awesome, 2 am and Dodge breaks out the Fonzie.

Thank you for the question, Hing.

I will rephrase this better in the PDF.

I refer here to when the exit in post #1046 on page 105.
There are 2 exits here - a “good” exit and a “basic” exit.

The statement above refers to the “good” exit in the diagram on page 105.
In this case, the Starc bands are going up or down, not level.

I actually assembled this step by step walkthrough to automate this strategy when i got some spare time and the “exit at Opposing 1.0 Star Band” would have been a lot easier to implement.

Good luck trying to automate it.
SimplexX, a master computer programmer, who posted on this thread and set up last year’s PDF, tried to do the same thing!!
I have no heard from him since.

The “exit at Opposing 1.0 Star Band” only refers to the case when the Starc bands are level.

Sorry to bother you at the dead of your night. I did get the charts for 35 and 45 m. I see that the chart is just frozen. I loaded the new 5 min template on the 5m chart. I opened offline and pulled 35 and 45 charts and on them i loaded the modified tymen not 5m. The price is just frozen on all pairs. I shut down and restarted and even removed the 35 45m charts and made new ones, still they are frozen. Any way to help me out ?

Thanks.
Muthu.

I see that you are all having a discussion on how to best use MT4.

I wish to add in here and copy some of the definitive posts from last year’s thread on the matter.
This stuff has been researched before and in the end, the users came to the conclusion that Dealbook was superior.

So many users switched to Dealbook.
There are many users, past and present, on this forum who swear by Dealbook.
Having been on this forum longer than all except Rhodytrader, I can tell you that I have never come across a person who regretted making the switch.

The only hicup that I know, is that you cannot use a micro account.

It is for you to choose what you want to do.

Anyhow, here are those posts copy/pasted from last year…

Tymen,

I have been getting so much from this thread I thought I’d try and give what little I know back.

For all the metatrader users, here is how to get a 20 minute chart:

*The first step can be done in two places. Don’t do it first if you use other expert advisors you don’t want to affect. If you’re doing several pairs doing it first will save time.

1.Go to tools/options/expert advisors. Check ‘allow live trading’ and clear ‘Ask manual confirmation’ , check ‘allow DLL imports’ and clear ‘confirm DLL function calls’.

2.Open a chart and select the 5 minute timeframe.

3.Open the navigator, go to scripts and open period converter.

4.On the inputs tab change ‘ExtPeriodMultiplier’ to 4. If you skipped step 1, it can now be done on the ‘common’ tab.

5.Now go to ‘file/open offline’ and choose your chart. Look for it, it will be there. Whichever indicator you’re using, make sure visualization is on all timeframes or you won’t see it.

It will tick even though it says offline, but there’s a catch, you have to keep the 5 minute chart open and you can’t change times on either the 5min or the 20min. For one you can change times on, you need to open another chart.

Hopefully that helps and we can all be on time with Tymen.

Tymen,

I decided to go with Dealbook. I already had it but wasn’t using it because GFT demo expires, thanks for the link.

Unfortunately those 20m charts in MT decided to stop ticking after the computer went to sleep and woke up again. Also the candles don’t give quite as clear an entry signal as Dealbook (not sure why). Anyway, I want to learn how to trade, not program computers, so Dealbook it is.

Have a good weekend, Jeff

Alright. Now that I can see Tymen’s screen, I can completely understand the magnet analogy; just in that screenshot, I can see at least two formations (they may not meet our requirements). I hate to say it, but Metatrader appears inadequate for this approach- despite VulcanClassic’s excellent find about converting timeframes.

as anticipated…

…Metatrader just doesn’t cut it for this strategy.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Metatrader and all, but Dealbook360 just blows it out of the water. Plus, Dealbook makes Metatrader look REAL old (NTTAWWT).
I trade at work during the day with the window open in the background, and this will save me a lot of jumping around between screens (when I’m supposed to be working). Plus, I really want to get my screen set up like Tymen’s. The visual effect is very impressive.

VulcanClassic (and others), you really should download it and at least give it a go!

Oh no! Forgot a setting on the template! The “Allow DLL imports” must be checked. Reuploaded here.

35 and 45.zip (2.36 KB)

Looks like dealbook has many followers. There are two reasons why i am using ibfx mt4. One, it has unlimited demo and second, it lets users from India to open an real account. I am NOT sure what’s the deal with the book. Do they allow unlimited demo ? Do they allow live accounts from India. Need to check with them.

Muthu.

I agree,

I too have abandoned MT4. Once U get used to Dealbook, there’s no going back. I’ve got a workspace for each pair and 9 timeframes in each, similar to Tymens. Too bad you can only load 83 charts before it quits.

Tymen1, is this a pattern, either on the 20 minute chart or the 30 minute chart, which you would consider to be too close to the mid band?

I have decided to go about constructing the PDF now!!
It will be a trial only.

Therefore, I will continue to answer questions and issues but no new material will be posted.
Any new material will be in the trial PDF.

When it is finished I will post it here and I will ask that all readers criticize it.
Do not spare the criticism - it something is not right, say so!!

With the criticisms logged, I will then do the final PDF.

After that, there is more time to look at trades and charts.
I aim to finish and lock this thread before 15 November.
