I am Abe. I am 23 and live/work in Houston. Graduated with Chemical Engineering BS and currently working for an engineering company in downtown. For a fresh grad who is single, earns well and almost debt free, I would say I am in a good position to take on this new adventure of trading. I like what I am doing now, but I don’t see myself being a techy for the rest of my life.
I want to learn trading because it is a means to financial freedom. Personally, I think it is a great challenge to undertake, and would be an accomplishment of a lifetime. I am trying to learn as much as I can on my own. I thought it would be best to get in touch with pros and people like myself to get tips and advice. So, here I am!
I don’t have a set goal on how much I want to earn and by when. All I know is that I am fascinated by this new paradigm and am willing to learn and master trading skills. I just seek direction and guidance. I would request that you share your experiences, dos/donts, motivations, stories, anything…It would be much appreciated.
Welcome to the forums Abe! Trading is a performance skill, so I think your first goal would be to focus on creating a trading method/processes for yourself that you can consistently execute and review. Like sports, mastering the skill will take time and there will be many bumps in the road ahead…but you probably have smarts to go along with that youth, I think with deliberate practice, you’ll be just fine. Good luck!
Thank, Pipcrawler, for that useful insight. I can see how trading can be compared to sports; I play soccer a lot and have developed a feel/style, so I understand what you mean. I will get myself familiar with the whole science/strategy of trading before I jump in and start demoing(I like minimum risk). Swing trading shall be my focus, as I am working full-time. I am also making my way through the training and strategies on this site.
Could anyone suggest any good reads or any essential materials to start with? Currently I am reading “Way of the Turtle”. Also, I would like to know if anyone else started off just like me, and how far they have gotten. Much appreciated.
Well, its not a complete switch…just an interest that I want to turn into a hobby. I am going through School of Pipsology and it is quite helpful. Thanks for your enthusiasm, and I am glad to be here!
