If I have an open position before a high impact news, how do I trade it?
Great question. Even experienced traders can get caught out by this.
The first thing is to know what high impact news s and when it is going to be released. Any good economic calendar will answer these questions. But remember that many currencies and national economies are strongly correlated, for example AUD and NZD; EUR and CHF; and many (most?) currencies with the USD. So look at news on other currencies as well as news for the currencies you are in.
Secondly recognise that even if you know what the news will be, that does not mean the market will react in a certain way. Price can fall after good news, it can rise after bad. Tactics that might help include exiting the position before the news; setting a tighter stop-loss; applying a trailing stop-loss; taking opposing positions on correlated currencies etc. The right choice should relate to your overall strategy.
Thank you tommor because most times I have a position in profit and a news comes up either in favor/not it just goes bad but with your explanation I’m clear… Thanks
Lot of times its just better to avoid the risk and stress of holding and bank the profits.
when there is a high impact news, there gonna be a huge market market movement when it release. So trading news is basically making trade along side that movement. it is rather risky and need proper money management to avoid huge losses. Good luck
trading during news is a big deal , need a most powerful analyzing fundamental knowledge , otherwise the result of news trading can be useless.
I would suggest if you’re trading a proitable position before a high impact news, then whatever happens, your trade will be adversely affected.
Why?
Well, the market sentiment would be affected and you could expect a volatile session with ups and downs until some sanity returns. If you’re trading the lower TF’s, watch out.
Send to you instead of Smallshow - sorry.
practice in a demo account during news and move on Fx factory economic calendar, i hope you will get the perfect result .
I agree though. Sometimes the news simply blows you out of a position because of wider spreads. so when the dust settles the strategy was fine for the direction of the position but it has been stopped out by the concealed volatility.
News can widely impact on negative or positive in your trade, so always give a try in demo trading and see how the pairs react to the news.
honestly speaking i have never seen at any beginner who can bring profit consistently during news , its my own experience , please dont take it personally.
Trading the news !!
At least we don’t have to put up with Donald Trump opening his cakehole these days
the success of news trading depends on fundamental data , so if you want to bring profit that time be strong on fundamentally.
You can trade it in two ways:
- If you think the news will positively impact your position, you can hold on to the trade and hope that the news will push your currency in the right direction.
- If you think the news will have a negative impact on your position, close your position before the release of the news and re-open it afterwards. This way, you can avoid any potential losses.
Whichever method you choose, make sure to keep track of the news and its impact on the market. This way, you can make informed decisions about your trades and maximize your profits.
You trade with caution
It is better to close ( most of your position ) before news and to (re)enter after news release. As @tommor stated you can not just trade based on the news results. As a technical trader I agree.
Lately I got to know a fundamental analysist. He also agrees to trade after and not before news. This must mean at least something
Thank you @SMIfx🙏
