Turtle Trading Adaptation

Yes, everyday after rollover I go in and readjust my orders according the new 20 day high / low and new volatility average. Once the orders are set it’s just a waiting game for the market to make its move.

That’s very generous but honestly I wouldn’t know what to do with a code hence my need for a speadsheet. As amaturish as it may sound, all I had when I was testing this system was my spreadsheet, my trading account App on my Ipod and a terrible Wifi conncetion becuase I was deployed at the time. I kept the same system when I came home because it was what I was comfortable using.

Well, I’d be happy to get you set up once I get the code completed. It will place all the trades exactly as you ask by itself. And you can monitor as many markets as you’d like.

I have known some drawdown periods lately, this is why im not trading with the risk management system anymore.

Hi Clark,

Just to ask how is your coding going on? Everything fine?

Search for “Dynamic Breakout Strategy” by George Pruitt. He wrote a book on TradeStation, and he implemented the turtles trading strategy in EasyLanguage.

Had some other errands to take care of and then took the long weekend off. I’ll be coding later this week. I have ~45 systems that need to be coded this summer so it’ll take a while, but I’ll try and push this one ahead.

Sorry for the rushing. Take your time mate.

No problem, I think I may be able to find some time tomorrow to get started.

There is something strange here.
You are missing 1 day every week, I am missing 2 days when I look at marketscope.
For example, you are missing Saturday 4th May, Saturday 27th April and Saturday 20th April
I am missing 4th AND 5th May, 27th AND 28th April, 20th AND 21st April.

I would like to argue that my data is correct as 5th May, 28th and 21st April are sundays, so there is no way data can be had for those days, or at the least, if we are not on the same time zone, you should still be missing 2 days data every 7 days.

Am I missing something here?
Tell me I am silly, I don’t mind learning from my mistakes, but I must say I am at a loss to explain how you got your data.

Thank you

Hi “Cyco”!

Could you perhaps elaborate on the “Smith enhancements” and “enhanced 20/10” please?

Maybe you could direct me to online sources that explain these in more detail?

If anyone else know about these points, please feel free to “educate” me with some details please.

Many thanks!

Carnino; Smith has a book called ‘How to make a living Trading Foreign Exchange’. In it he has his trading systems, and how he developed them.

There is a discussion of them, and how others are applying them in the thread I started here. Most of the discussion of the adaptation doesn’t start till around page 30.

I also use Marketscope. Marketscope rolls over at 5pm EST every day. For example, the data it displays for April 19th starts at 5pm EST on April 18th. The two “days” that it doesn’t show are every Saturday and Sunday, which is really 5pm EST on Friday to 5pm EST on Sunday. When 5pm EST hits on Sunday, Marketscope shows this as Monday’s data. In essence, 5pm EST is Marketscope’s midnight.

I don’t know what platform he uses, but my guess is that it displays the 7 hours the market is open on Sunday on the bar for Sunday, and then starts a new bar for Monday, instead of showing Sunday evening’s data on Monday.

Thank you for the info!

Yes, I though this could be the case, and I guess it does not really matter as long as the data is consistent, so I am going to use this system for a bit and see how it fares.

George Pruitt’s Dynamic Breakout Strategy backtesting results on EURUSD.

Thanks for sharing the system - it is exactly the type of system I have been looking for. I also have a full time job so dont have the time to sit infront of the computer all day. I spent the weekend on excel sorting out a spreadsheet and inputting data - now its sorted though its quite easy to download data from Mt4 and just slot it into the spreadsheet so you could have orders set up for several pairs at a time.

Just a quick question I had for you - when an order becomes live do you let it run until it hits TP or SL or do you adjust the TP’s and SL’s when you get the new days data range.

My order placed on Monday EURUSD long has just been opened and is currently +23 pips, lets hope they keep coming…

Thanks again.

Hi, any luck on creating this EA yet?

dhanson888, how’s your system going now? Still gaining pips?

Working on it right now. The volatility formula looks like an ADR(20)? Or am I off?
