Value of pip

holy sh*t rhody seemed u lashed out on me  ā€¦ most of those thing just came out of my mind, and like i said its an example. and those prices i just took them out of my broker fxsolutions. the pairs yea i got mixed up like i said came out of my mind. and about the leverage i was again giving an example not the risk. and im sure i did said something about the risk.

and yes i look more into aud/usd and usd/jpy helps out alot especailly since im trading into mini account. its not smart to trade a $150 gbp/usd on a $300 account now is it? not a good idea right. well anyways not to flame here. i leave this how it is.

Hi all, i have some qns regarding pip calculations too. Hope you guys donā€™t mind.

Does the mt4 program automatically calculate your loss for a given pips as stop loss or do i have to manually figure it out myself? Because i realised oanda provided that service.

Ok i understand for the usd pairs 100 000 would be $10 per pip.

What if i buy 1 lot of EUR JPY at 110.460
How much is one pip now? Isit still $10 ? thanks all.

Itā€™s $10/pip when the USD is the quote currency in the pair (second one, such at EUR/USD), not for all USD pairs (as in not for USD/JPY).

No, not still $10. Itā€™s variable based on the dollar rate to the quote currency, in this case USD/JPY.

Hey, thanks for the prompt reply. Okay could you perharps give me couple of examples so i could get a clearer picture? Like a mathematical caculation.

Thank you so much, appreciate it

It would be 10 of the quote currency, which is the first currency listed in the pair.

So 1 standard lot on GBP/JPY would be 10 British pounds per pip, not 10 US dollars.

To get the pip value in dollars just do the currency conversion with whatever the current rate is. The easiest way (especially when you arenā€™t using round numbers like 10) is to just type it into Google and let their currency converter do the work. For example, type ā€œ10 gbp to usdā€ in Google and it tells you ā€œ10 British pounds = 14.27 U.S. dollarsā€

The Google converter is not updated in real time though, so be aware it will be off by a few pennies.

Tsk, tsk Phil.

The rate change is in the quote currency, not the base (second listed, not first), which is why itā€™s the quote currency. Thus, 10 pips in EUR/USD is $0.0010, while 10 pips in USD/JPY is 0.10 yen.

So, if youā€™re trading GBP/JPY and you make 100 pips that would be 1 JPY. If USD/JPY were 100, it would be $0.01 (1 JPY / 100).

Ok just to re confirm the quote currency is the 2nd one listed and the base currency is the first one right?

Thatā€™s right.

Ok thank you!
