What is the best time to do day trading in XAUUSD (IST)

I want to know, what is the best time to trade in XAUUSD for day trading

It depends whether you want times of high or low volatility for your daytrading.

Because gold can be terribly volatile (especially at the moment!) some intraday gold traders want to trade it only or mostly at times of lower volatility.

Others with a wilder, much faster-moving, perhaps more gambling style of trading want to choose one of the most volatile instruments/”pairs” there is, XAU-USD, and still choose the most volatile times of the day to trade it as well (honestly!).

So it depends very much on what you want, on the volatility front.

The busiest, highest-volume, highest-volatility times are the first couple of hours or so of the London session (currently about 8.00 to 10.00am BST) and the first couple of hours or so of the New York/USA session (currently about 8.00 to 10.00am EST) when London is still open at the same time (“the overlap hours”).

If, like many of us, you want to avoid the wildest/highest-volatility times, those would certainly be the hours to try to keep away from, I‘d say.

Welcome to the forum, both of you.

Very good post, just above Also maybe worth mentioning that Wednesday is traditionally (and still) the most active day of the week for trading XAU/USD, closely followed by both Tuesday and Thursday, but with Monday and Friday far behind in volumes and volatility.

The overlap hours are the highest volatility for XAU/USD, certainly, if volatility’s what you want. There’s about a 4-hour period between the New York open and the London close, and that’s the peak time of the day for gold trading (and I think for many currency pairs also).

Gold trading is very challenging, in my opinion, because of its high volatility. Low margin may often suffer more losses due to volatility risk. About time trading, I think the London and New York sessions still provide greater opportunities on average than other times. However, sometimes in the Asian session, there can also be significant movements, which may be due to demand factors in China or other factors - geopolitical risks, interest rates, etc.

for day trading xauusd the best time is usually during the overlap of the london and new york sessions around 8am to 12pm new york time

this is when volume and volatility are highest which means cleaner moves and better opportunities for scalping or intraday setups

gold reacts strongly to economic news especially from the us so trading around scheduled releases like cpi or fomc can also offer big moves. just be careful with slippage

Agree, the London market session overlaps with the New York session, often contributing to greater volatility for gold. However, gold is also sometimes sensitive to economic events such as Trump’s tariffs, interest rates, etc.
