What time frame to use for COT data?

I want to use the COT data as an indicator on my chart, does it have to be used on a weekly chart or does it not matter?

COT data is released weekly so it fits best with a weekly chart probably if you absolutely want to have it on a chart. Personally I wouldn’t bother having it as an indicator on my charts though. For me it’s one of those reports that’s useful to keep in the back of the brain box as part of the overall bigger picture but isn’t all that helpful for timing an entry as stretched positions in COT data can stay stretched for quite some time.

I am happy you are looking out for the COT Report Rebecca. Actually there is an ongoing thread in the Fundamentalle ville where we discussed most likely everything about the COT Report. I started it 1.5 years ago and we worked ourselves through with experienced traders. So just visit the first page there which is a table of contents and you are welcome to ask your questions there.

I do agree with Tektolnes in a way that COT report is great to follow but is definitely not a timing tool.

Thanks guys, I’ve put it on the weekly chart, wont be using it for entries and exits, just mindful of its importance in the bigger picture…
