What was That?!?

Ok guys,

Take it easy on me here.

Did anyone see what happened with the USD/CAD at 10:45 GMT Aug 13?

It went sideways for 4 hours, then BAM!!! dropped 30 pips quick. I couldn’t find any news or candlesticks that would have done it. The only indicator (that I have going) that hinted at it was BB squeeze, but not direction.

Looking for an expert opinion from those that know.

Thanks

Maybe a bank offloading a large block of long USD/CAD before North America came online? The low volatility denoted by a BB squeeze would be the time when putting a large order through might move the market by that magnitude.

What timeframe are you viewing USD/CAD with, though? I don’t see a 30 pip drop @ 1045 GMT today (08/13).

It was 15M timeframe.

here’s a chartshot

usd/cad is funny sometimes. I seen it on the asian session trading flat as always and bam a 60 pip wick hits for about 10 seconds and goes right back to where it was. I thought it was a glitch with the broker feed but about three other brokers confirmed the “mystery” spike.

If you were long, you had about 10 seconds to make some quick cash.

If you were short, and trading large lots like most asian session scalpers, you were probably crapping your pants for about 10 seconds.

Okay, 22:45 GMT, 10:45 p.m. GMT. I was looking at a.m.

yeah sorry, forgot about +12

Very difficult to see but the 2 candles before look like a short engulfing pattern but is on the wrong Bollinger band.

As such there is no tradable candlestick pattern for me and I would simply have ignored the whole thing.
No harm would be done.

I find the 15 minute timeframe too short anyway.

There is stage 5 thinking:)

The 3 green soldiers afterwards (long trading) would probably have made a better trade.

Enter long at the open of the next candle after the 3rd green candle.

Stop loss tentatively 3 pips below the lowest green candle wick.

Enter 1 amount then a 2nd amount upon price improvement of 5 pips.

Use 7 pip trailing stop loss.
