What's cooking?

hahahaha

As a kid, after eating the cupcake, I use to ball up the paper and gnaw on it like chewing gum.

Another Chinese favorite of mine: the steam bun!

A convenient little snack, you can buy them frozen.

I used to buy them frozen. I liked the pork buns most. Iā€™ve never made them, but they look fun to make.

I think steam buns and gyozas have spread to just about every country in Asia.

You can make gyozas in a frying pan, but to make both youā€™ll need a bamboo steamer.

Some people use disposable non-stick paper.

There is also stainless steel.

Iā€™ve never seen anyone take brownies so seriously!

BTW, my favourite brownie is the fudge brownie along the edges of the panā€“thatā€™s where the crunchy ones are!

She mentions how seriously her husband took this challenge as a judge:

Brownies are literally his favorite dessert of all time. He is a known chocoholic and given the opportunity to order any dessert on a menu he is going to always pick the chocolate option. While he generally supports all of the insane challenges that I come up with, this one was personal. He was committed to this research and the experimentation in the pursuit of a new favorite brownie recipe. This man approached the tasting component of this experiment with a fresh legal pad and a palate cleanser.

I expected the untrimmed ribs to be the winner. Ainā€™t nothinā€™ wrong with a little fat!

Thatā€™s what I mean. In the beginning of the video, I expected them to win.

I can understand if thereā€™s too much fat for your taste. But other than that, I say leave it on. Some fat is healthy, too!

Do you have a preference? Or does it depend on what youā€™re making?

As for me, I choose the brick oven, as well. However, I really would like to take that oil drum for a spin. It looks like fun!

The technique is completely different, and I think itā€™d be a cool experience. I wanna try that Caribbean flavour!

I didnā€™t realize how different each technique is.

Most people who cook outside donā€™t know the difference either, including myself.

I prefer smoked meat, something about the flavor, what about you?

Honestly, Iā€™m more naive about this than I realized. I just thought there was roast and slow roast. Thatā€™s it.

I just learned yesterday what smoking really meant. To me, bbq is bbq. I thought the only difference was wood or charcoal.

Brick oven, oil drum. I thought they did the same thing. You get the fire going, throw some chicken or pork ribs on, and 30-45 minutes later, the food is ready.

I really didnā€™t think there was more to it than that.

There really are levels to this!

And honestly, I donā€™t think Iā€™ve ever even noticed any smokey flavor at all.

All my grilling experience (not much) has been with wood, and I never noticed a smokey flavor. Iā€™m sure it was there, but I never noticed it. Iā€™d have to compare it with a charcoal option to notice any difference.
