When to trade

I have already finished the learning lessons and would like to start demo trading. The problem that I have is , I cannot trade everyday, but definitely on weekends. Could some one suggest what the best pair to trade in week ends?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by week ends, Saturdays and Sundays? Spread is very high during those days.

Depends on where you live, maybe you better try to squeeze off some times in the morning or at night between Monday to Friday. If you can’t…well, maybe you better take a raincheck.

Weekends are a bad time to trade. According to babypips Friday is not a good day to trade. I havn’t seen that myself, but it might be true for other pairs and styles of trading.

Saturday trading is closed. Trading resumes on sunday, the time depends on your broker and timezone. For me sunday trading starts at 5 in the afternoon. But, I don’t trade on sunday as movement is pretty slow and it’s like watching paint dry.

Where do you live? what country? A good time to trade from in the U.S. would be M-F 7-11 A.M. eastern time, as this is the New York/London overlap and their is a good amount of movement/volatility.

I’ve watched some pair past that and into the evening, but unless you are long term trader it gets to slow past that. At least that’s what I’ve seen.

Beginning my posts, I never thought I’d say this, but I do agree with Phoenix. I would only add another session to your “times to trade” box, if you have room for accepting what I’ve seen. The 12:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. Session in your timezone, or, the NYSE timezone moves quite nicely as well, depending on your pair. G/C and G/U move smooth, for the most part, depending on news events. Atleast for now.

Hope there is no bad opinion between us of one another there Ph, I didn’t mean to stir the pot quite the way you expected, all apologies. Hope to share good info in the futre.

Peace, and, as always, good luck and good pippin

Thanks for all the replies. By the way I live in Canada.

hey donsls, sounds like you might be more geared to position (long term) trading. You can research your trades over the weekend and then enter them Sunday nights or when you have time during the week. Personally, I could never trade like this, but a lot of people do.

Maybe you can try trading the yen crosses at night when you are free on weekdays.

Thanks for all your replies. Much appreciated.
I have one more question. I have setup up a 4hr chart with the MetaTrader. When I look at the bottom of the screen, I see 30-dec 04:00, 31-dec 12:00, and they are no 4 hour intervals. Am I reading the screen wrong?

donsls, look at the line the text is referring to; there is no possible way to label date and time for each candlestick, so they label every x numbers. its like drawing a graph in math, you put intervals of 5 instead of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,… get it?

Yes, I understand that it is difficult to label each candle stick. But the text is confusing. It shows dec 26 20:00 and jumps to 30-dec 4:00 (skipped the week end, but nothing for 29-dec) and then it shows 31-dec 12:00, and there is nothing for 02-Jan yet.

If you click on the crosshair tool, next to the arrow in the upper left of the toolbar, you can see the time for each candle by moving the crosshair across the chart.

Thanks a million. Much appreciated.
