Windows 7

Can anyone tell me how to load an indicator into my trading platform using Win7? It is really different than XP which I have used before. I have the unzipped file on my desktop but I can’t find a way to load it. Thanks, dobro

What’s the platform?

MBTrading’s mt4

Don’t you just drop the indicator file into the same location as before using windows explorer?

With XP I went to Control Panel>C Drive>etc but I don’t get the same picture with Win7. I’ll check with my geeks this weekend.

Right click on the windows icon in the bottom left (where Start was in XP) and select Explore. That’ll open the windows explorer and you can browse then to the location.

you could right click on the mt4 icon and select open file location

Than look for the indicators folder and simply copy and paste it into that folder

Than close that window

If mt4 was running x it off and restart

That should do it. Thats how I add all my files to mt4 whether its indicators, experts, dll’s or whatever

You need to be aware of a very important difference between XP and Windows 7 (and Vista). MicroSoft attempted to improve the security by restricting access to Program Files and sub folders. This means executables are meant to reside in Program Files and data and other files reside in the User folder. Keep in mind that the intent was for one executable (MT platform) to be shared by all users on the computer. Files specific to the user such as data and configurations are meant to reside in the Users folder. That is the way Office and most other programs are structured.

MetaQuotes chose to ignore the change for MT4 and made the installation default under the Program Files folder but did change things for MT5. For MT4 you can overcome the problem in one of 2 ways. Install MT4 in a User subfolder (recommended) or change the folder permissions using the admin userid to allow full access (not recommended).

Thanks to all of you. I should be able to do it now but if not I will be back. d

Why don’t you go back to Windows XP? It’s much faster.

Not for me as on XP I have a lot of Java stuff on it -7 is a lot faster on my machine.
