now i seldom rant or dispurse negativity about anything but one event imparticular today really got my back up
it is about ignorance and egotistic behaviour!
now as alot of you may know i am 18 but have been very active in the forex market for almost 3 years and it is now my primary source of income, not blowing my own trumpet here but i have become a reasonably skilled and knowledgable trader
a few days ago a new trader left a message on a forex blog very eager to learn and looking for help from someone with a little more experience, so i sent him an e-mail and it turned out he only lives about 20 minutes from me, i arranged to meet him at a nearby coffee shop and offered to spend some time with him sharing my knowledge and experience of trading completely FREE of charge.
i arrive in stratford and meet him face to face, expecting a polite hi and thank you for taking out the time to help me kind of thing instead once he had realised my age i am insulted by somethig along the lines of:
" your not even half my age! your still a kid! what could you possibly teach me! thanks a bunch for wasting my time! "
now i dont care what professional background your from that is pure egotistical, ignorant and just plain rude!
the forex market is not the place for ignorant, narrow minded individuals like that and im sure the moment he goes live the market will tear him to pieces!
i can understanding maybe being a little skeptical or maybe a little disappointed as it wasnt what he had expected but to be completely dismissive and rude about it really did pi$$ me off
You were right to realize that this individual lacks both the wisdom and temperament to succeed in forex trading. I’d even go so far as to add he will not be successful in anything else in his life, including having a circle of friends or family who respect and genuinely like him.
Nah, it wouldn’t make a difference. You just ran into a “know-it-all”. I have one for a boss where I work. No matter what, you are wrong and stupid just because you are young (others discriminate for other reasons). I deal with it everyday and it sucks. I get advice on how to program even though she has no idea what an “if” statement is and I have an engineering degree. I get advice on how to invest my 401k even though hers is down 50%, etc.
mmm i have a theory as to the reason some may say that…
(dont kill me for this :p)
BUT woman can be very hormonal and emotional at times and everybody knows emotions are a huge factor to trading…i dare not finish the rest lol but you get the point
sweetpip i look forward to your theory as to why most men cant trade either?
Have you seen Expanding the Daisy Chain thread lately (among others long past)…isn’t testosterone a hormone? so who’s emotional!!!. There are guys getting banned left right & center…when have you ever seen a woman/girl get banned?
I guess we just don’t trade during that time (of the month…lol)…men don’t have a time of the month…they’re on it all month long!..
My point wasn’t really about who which gender can/can’t trade…it was just another example of being stereo-typed. The issue is that even after being a victim of it, you then did the same thing…i.e. age = ignorance.
I’m constantly trying to keep perspective in the eyes of my 2 teenagers (both boys) and hubby, that “once or twice” does not make it “all the time”.
For instance, once in a while the kids will forget to do something, so my hubby tells them “you never do what you’re supposed to do”…which is not true…but it’s a negative mindtrap that we humans, for some reason, keep perpetuating.
Then the kids say, he “always” yells…which is also not true, but if he did it once, then again for some reason, it becomes “always” especially in an emotional moment.
This phenomenon then extends to perhaps his knowing a woman who once failed at trading or a trade…then suddenly that become, “all” woman can’t trade… when one has limited exposure to the contrary I guess what else can one think……(even jashanoo had a “one” woman story…lol)
However, it’s unfortunate because it causes major prejudisms, and is very hard to overcome.
As for men not being able to trade with a woman around…ya think!
alot of people just need a broader perspective, people are often too quick to judge on the grounds of age, sex, etc that they often look past all the qualities and skills that that particular individual has to offer.
people too often assume that the minority of a particular category of people represent the majority
I don’t think that men can trade better than women, I think that more men choose to trade than women. I don’t know why that is but maybe in general men are more willing to risk money than women are.
I would say though that the majority of women could run circles around men when it comes to understanding the psychology of the markets.
