He was stopped by a bullet. There’s not much fight anyone can put up against a bullet. A bullet is not the same as an opposing political party, or public opinion.
MLK persisted, gained a following, and lead the nation to change for the better. No political party was able to stop him. The only thing that could stop him was lethal violence.

“We urge you to refrain from these inflammatory accusations, withdraw your demand for information, and let the criminal justice process proceed without unlawful political interference,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg wrote to three Republican House committee chairs Friday in a letter obtained by The Associated Press.

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina says he’s got a plan to keep former President Donald Trump from being prosecuted after being indicted by a grand jury in Manhattan on Thursday — assaulting a police officer and engaging in robbery.
“How can President Trump avoid prosecution in New York?,” asked Graham on Twitter. “On the way to the DA’s office on Tuesday, Trump should smash some windows, rob a few shops and punch a cop.”
The senator added: “He would be released IMMEDIATELY!”

No you could not do that before. Prior to the internet it cost you $15 or $20 per hour to call someone that was 200 miles down the road, but now I can have full motion video calls with someone anywhere in the world and all I need is an internet connection at the web Cafe.
In the past I couldn’t send money around the world unless it cost me a lot to do it, but now I can send $1,000 or $10,000 to someone on the other side of the planet and it cost me very little. I can also transfer bitcoins to anyone in the world and it cost me slivers of pennies.

100 years ago it wasn’t even possible to communicate instantaneously with someone on the other side of the planet you had to send them a letter and it had to be transported by ship which would take months or at least weeks.

The First Amendment protects individuals and allows freedom of speech, religion, assembly, press and the right to petition. However, the right to freedom of speech has fallen under scrutiny lately because some individuals believe that freedom of speech means they can say whatever they want to without having to endure consequences. Freedom of speech does not exempt us from suffering consequences on the basis of something we say.
Everyone is entitled to be able to voice their own opinions, ideas and views without interference from the government. However, once statements that are voiced condone some form of discrimination, racism, homophobia, etc., at that point one cannot expect people to not voice their opinions back or call out these individuals for their negative comments. Individuals are also free to voice their comments on any social media platform but they should also expect that they may face possible backlash if the comments that are made are derogatory, racist, etc.
Individuals also have to understand that regardless of having the right to freedom of speech, there are limitations to what can be said. For example, we cannot yell “fire” in a crowded area like a sporting event or movie theatre because that word is inciting chaos that can lead to someone being injured. If someone were to yell “fire” without there being an actual fire they will face consequences through law enforcement.
