There are still good people out there!
“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
Sometimes we forget that there is still kindness in this chaotic world we live in.
Mexico is America’s border neighbor and this goes on all the time, will they ever be able to stop the drug cartels?
The mayor of a crime-ridden city in Mexico has been killed less than a week after taking office, the latest in a string of violent attacks targeting politicians in the country.
The killing of Alejandro Arcos, who took office as the mayor of Chilpancingo on October 1, comes just days after the city government’s secretary Francisco Tapia was shot to death, and has renewed concerns over security in a country that recently held its biggest and most violent general election in history.
On Monday, Mexico’s newly elected President Claudia Sheinbaum called Arcos’ killing “unfortunate” and said that her security cabinet would on Tuesday explain “with more details” the actions being taken to address the nation’s security problems.
“We will roll out the general strategy. We will work in some states with more presence, intelligence, and investigation in collaboration with the governors,” Sheinbaum said during her daily press conference.
Chilpancingo is the capital of Guerrero, a state with a reputation for violent crime which is also home to the tourist hot spot Acapulco.

France is at the top with a majority of babies born out of wedlock - 60 percent. On the other end of the scale, Greece has the lowest rate, where nine out of ten children were born to parents that were already married.
This is curious. I wonder why this is so. To create this outcome, what values does Greece have that France does not?
The U.S. warned Israel that it could lose access to weapons funding if it doesn’t increase humanitarian aid going into Gaza within 30 days. In a letter, it noted that 90% of aid had been denied or impeded by Israel.
The letter, sent on Sunday, amounts to the strongest known written warning from the US to its ally and comes amid a new Israeli offensive in northern Gaza that has reportedly caused a large number of civilian casualties.

I like this man’s perspective. It’s very hopeful and focuses on the possibilities of the future, rather than being held back by history.
I also like how he said his poor neighbourhood was much safer long ago than society today.
It’s strange how times change. He mentioned a poor community with low crime. Meanwhile, nowadays, poverty seems to have a direct positive correlation with criminality. So, which is it?
While Universal Basic Income may not be a viable solution in Oklahoma for a variety of reasons, it is clear that preventing people from falling into poverty does make communities safer. Oklahoma is currently exacerbating the situation by assessing overwhelming fines and fees on criminal defendants. These fines and fees make income inequality worse by attaching costs to the already lowest earners and prevents those released from prison from escaping poverty, which makes them more likely to commit both property and violent crimes. It further increases the risk of domestic violence as well. 80% of all criminal defendants in the country are already indigent and placing onerous fines and fees on top of that creates a never-ending cycle of poverty into crime, and then upon release, straight back into poverty and thus eventually, back into crime.
The main tenant of any criminal justice regime is to increase public safety, and enforcing burdensome fines and fees on criminal defendants only serves to increase recidivism and decrease public safety. In order to reduce violent crime in Oklahoma, we must start by looking at poverty, and the legislative policies which create it.
I was curious about investing in Venezuela. Not for my own investment–I was just curious about what the foreign investment climate is over there.
It’s not looking too good. A big reason foreign investment has declined in Venezuela is because of the corruption. Venezuela ranks 177th out of 180 on the Corruption Perception Index.
Venezuela is barely ahead of Somalia, which ranks 180th. However, even Somalia has millionaires.

@SmallPaul @Mondeoman @TYGMedia If you were a turnaround consultant, what country would you choose to take on, and why?
As for me, I think I would choose Somalia. Not necessarily because it would be the wildest long-shot, but because it has a reputation of starvation and poverty, which isn’t completely accurate–only a small portion of the country is starving. And that starvation is mostly caused by resource mismanagement. If I could turnaround Somalia, no one would EVER see that coming!
How about a city? Is there a particular city you’d rather turnaround/restructure instead of a country?
It would be cool to find a small city in the US. One of those obscure cities with a population lower than 10,000 people. I’d probably check some list of least desirable places to live, or something like that. I wouldn’t try to turn it into a metropolis–just more financially stable, that’s all.
Maybe even a rural area in a developing, yet stable, country. Maybe Southeast Asia or central America.
Good questions, I have never thought about that, give me a minute to think about it
Take your time. It’s just for fun. No worries. Besides, I’ll probably have followup questions. haha
In the meantime…
I’ve never really looked into ETFs. This selection looks interesting. It includes: various countries, blockchain, social media, cyber security, uranium, and aging population.
An ETF could be a great way to invest in other countries from a distance.
Hi @dushimes, I’ve no interest in changing the world. I would rather to stay in quite place to find wisdom.
I’ve traveled around the world and met different type of people. My opinion is it’s easier to change rural area. A well developed city will have conflicts and interest. We will need political power to address every issues. We haven’t think about cultural resistances we have to deal with. Headache!!
If I really have to choose, I will build everything from scratch, develop a new city.
It might be best to go this route: how will I build my new country/city?
Infrastructure will be the foundation
Roads and highways
Schools / Education
Housing
Health and medical
Food and Agriculture
Water
Electricity
Police and military
Criminal justice system
Telecommunications
Postal service.
The list goes on
Hi @SmallPaul, dont forget to build goose ponds and kitten park.
When you feel lonely and depressed, goose and kitten are good companions

“his body was discovered by an agent of the SVR, Russia’s foreign intelligence service, who was walking the dog of a senior spymaster”
It’s like Putin saying, “Yeah we did it! What are you gonna do about it?
Putin is just evil.
A former Russian oil executive has been found dead after apparently falling from the window of his Moscow flat.
Mikhail Rogachev was found outside his 10th-story apartment in Moscow with injuries consistent with a fall, Russian media reported.
Russian news agencies said authorities were treating his death as a suicide.
Telegram channels close to the Russian security services said his body was discovered by an agent of the SVR, Russia’s foreign intelligence service, who was walking the dog of a senior spymaster in the building’s courtyard on Saturday morning.
The 64-year-old was a former vice-president of Yukos, the oil giant that was broken up and after its billionaire owner Mikhail Khodorkovsky was imprisoned after challenging Vladimir Putin.
He went on to work as executive director of the Onexim group, oligarch Mikhail Prokhorov’s investment vehicle, and later deputy general director of Norilsk Nickel, a mining giant.
He is the latest of nearly a dozen Russian energy executives to die in mysterious circumstances over the past two years.
Starting from scratch? Haha
I didn’t see that coming!
Starting anew is easier, and often a luxury that’s not always available.
What if you HAD to turnover a distressed country/city?
Hi @dushimes, this is a tough question.
The best option is a small town, where no strong culture. The population isn’t considerably big and the most important thing is no extremist. I found some of them in Africa (Kenya, Angola) and Philippine.
If I have unlimited fund, turn over dessert in Namibia is also interesting. I will design a super eco-friendly city, grow vegetable and trees in desert, desalination sea water to the whole country. … i want also have …
wake up … wake up … wake up … I almost got fool by my dream …
These could be a nice option. These “fog nets” catch fog and humidity, and collect water.
This could make big changes difficult, right? The people may resist improvements because of some extreme cultural differences.
In Turkey, their President tried to mix religion and finance. So, he reduced the interest to 0% and TRY value fell through the floor.

How would you guys handle Immigration?
No Immigrants.

Immigrants of the same ethnic group if possible.
