How many monitors/screens do you use for trading-related stuff?

simple poll, simple rules:

1 - count each monitor/screen that has content related to trading (charts, news, fx chat rooms, learning, etc)
2 - count a monitor/screen regardless if it’s on a separate computer or laptop, add it all together
3 - do NOT count monitors on which you have email, music, etc (stuff that’s of no use to actual trades)

let us know! who run the basics on 1 screen, who goes all out with 5-plus screens like we see in the movies?

I use only one i prefer to look at the bigger picture :stuck_out_tongue:

100+ views but only 3 votes/results. wow! :stuck_out_tongue:

i’ve used 1 screen since the beginning, but the only issue i have is the constant Alt-Tab to hop to the calendar and news releases. or when i was using a laptop, the limited amount of physical space to organize things…

If you don’t want to use Alt+Tab, why not open 2 or more separate windows?
Just a thought.

I am also using a single screen. 22", after using a 15" for several years.
planning to get 1 or 2 more, or a laptop.

Pics of my setup. Both 36" monitors. The secret I’ve found is go to your local electronics store (In America that’s Fry’s, BestBuy etc…) and look at the computer monitors and the prices. Then walk over to the TV department and look at the sizes and prices. And you’ll notice that the TV’s have HDMI inputs and can function as computer monitors just as well as the monitors in the computer department for much less. BOTH of these together cost me under $700.00

If you’ve got a Ferrari in the garage, or your patio overlooks your swimming pool which overlooks your entire city, these might be up your alley…

WARNING MONITOR PORN BELOW

I use the digital tigers system in the pic you posted

Setup is the still the same - couple screens - but only research and write algos these days. Use the iPhone a lot to monitor things while on the move (Trade Interceptor - charting/studies/market feeds, broker app - order/position management). Eventually will only use the iPhone via a custom app to control/manage/monitor live algos anytime anywhere.

Initial reason for extra screen - timeframe analysis (4 frames), statistical analysis (8 studies) per underlying security.

(pic pulled off old phone)

wow those are huge. aren’t those too big? how far away do you sit from your monitors?

How about the lighting? I still have a problem with my lighting, regarding the glare and such.

which one is yours? the top or bottom one? is it worth it?
that’s fantastic

ha! I bet it feels like a real trading office with all those timepieces.

If you look in the pic you can see my keyboard, so I sit just behind that. If I stretch out my arm I can touch the screen. Glare is not an issue as I play with the contrast, brightness and gamma to smooth things out. Also I keep the room kind of dark. Low level mood lighting helps on the eyes. The desk lamp on the right is actually a key to helping the eyes as it provides a competing light source that helps soften the screen lighting.

OK thanks that was helpful. I will keep that in mind.
Wattage of your desk lamp’s light? I might need to move things around and change/add some lighting in my room.

The bottom one. I think it a great piece of hardware and to me it has been worth it.

certainly does haha but ultimately before I just liked having a feel for where everyone was in their day (other traders) before pushing the button and hated doing GMT conversion when sourcing local news reports/announcements.

now i’m fully automated they just help me know when it’s good to email/call certain people in certain places.

clock tip
for anyone getting clocks: by one’s with the silent mechanisms… it does your head in listening to 3 clocks trying to stay in sync.
also, cheap clocks don’t stay in sync for long. not all clocks are the same - these cost £3 / $5 each.

ya, i’d like to find good SILENT analog clocks. the cheap ones - as said - that i bought at the local dollar store are loud and lose synch within 2 days. tossed 'em pretty quickly.

i s’pose digital ones are fully silent but they just don’t have the right look n feel to them… unless someone makes digital clocks that LOOK like the analog pointer ones (like those watches from the mid-80s)

I have only one monitor. I will buy two other, if my account grown enougth. But who d’ont wanna the Ferrari? Realy nice tool you get.

If BabyPips.com would put this : Forex Market Hours - Forex Market Time Converter on their website it would give me an excuse to have it up all the time :56:

Very handy timezone converter this thanks.

hmm, i need to update my vote but it won’t let me… move my vote from 4 to 5+ (well, 6 really).

Just the one at the moment for me, still learning, though my screen is awful packed when I have everything going on. I’ve always thought that as I developed my trading, I’d up my hardware. Makes sense.
