A Call for Respect, How we handle user feedback

Continuing the discussion from Who says trading without a stop loss is stupid? Find out why this guy thinks it’s not!:

Hey folks, the topic was spiraling into nowhere, so it was closed. Sorry to those who may have been crafting a reply. You’ll also notice a few posts were removed as they don’t really add value to the discussion at hand.

I did, however, want to respond to how we handle user feedback, and I wanted to present some info on the post that got us here.

We welcome any and all criticism. We’ve been very open about how we leave user feedback as-is, whether good or bad, as long as it is written within the parameters of our Forum Policy and Terms of Use. User feedback, especially negative reviews, helps us to check our internal barometer of how we’re doing or not doing. Negative reviews most certainly take us out of our comfort zone, but in a good way. They give us a chance for introspection and review, and if legitimate issues are surfaced, we get the opportunity to hopefully fix them.

On the FPA review itself, again, we’re fine with such a post, whether it was posted legitimately or not. What we do have issue with is the motive of posting the reference to the review, in the specific discussion it was used, and by the member who posted it. In this case, MannyPaq, a member that joined last month, posted it. That user was just banned for sockpuppeting. Using our magic spells and potions, we determined MannyPaq to also be jafooly, who was banned last month for abusive behavior to members and staff related to this very discussion. Whether MannyPaq/jafooly is also this Jay on FPA is unknown to us, but that doesn’t really matter. MannyPaq/jafooly are both gone.

What does matter, however, is how each and every one of us conducts ourselves in this public forum. It’s very easy to leave civility at the door and resort to bickering, arguing and name calling. Those actions take us farther and farther away from what we’re all here to do - become better traders, make some friends with members who share a common interest, and maybe even learn a thing or two. Let’s all take a step back and review the situation for what it could be. We all have a hand in what we want this place to be. The fact that you’re here, reading this, means you place at least some value in the community. Or maybe you’re just bored. Hopefully not the latter. So please, remember why we’re here, take the high ground (as hard as that is sometimes) when discussions get “passionate”, think before you post, and treat your fellow members with respect.
