Alright, so right now MT4 is giving me “no connection”, tried opening a new demo account and scan for other servers but I only get one server and it appears to be down at the moment ( it says n/a under “ping” ) normally this server has shown to be quite good, but I can’t really afford for this to happen if I had been in the middle of a trade since all my indicators are in MT4, I’ve tried uploading them into my live account but the interface just isn’t as comfortable as MT4 and I don’t want a stupid thing like that block me from profits. So is there any way for me to add demo servers into MT4, so I get more than 1 option if this ever happens again?
Set up a demo account with a few brokers. The price feeds will not match exactly but it should be pretty close. Try to find a few brokers with demos that do not expire. IBFX (I think) and FXpro do not expire, there are some more check the fine print.
I have experience this problem a few times and its frustrating. Keep in mind the servers most brokers run there demo price feed on is a lower priority then the live price feed and may not be as reliable.
thanks for the tip, I ended up completely uninstalling MT4 and downloading it from FXpro, went through the steps of reinstalling it and everything seems to be working now. But if I want to add more brokers to the mix so I don’t have this happen too often…there’s gotta be an easier way than this, I saw somewhere you can get IP addresses from brokers that use MT4, how does that work? where do I go to add these IPs and make them work?
Each download of MT4 will include one or more .srv files in the config (I think, I’m at work and don’t have an MT4 installed here) directory that represents the available servers. If you download MT4 from multiple brokers, you can copy each .srv and drop it into one of the installs’ config folder and all of the servers will show up for that particular install. Then you can uninstall all of the other instances of MT4 if you wish.
