Adventures in candlestick trading

Regarding the Starc bands setup:

Please check the attached screenshot.
Is this the value I should set to 1.0 and 0.7 ?

I am using MT4.

Thank You,

Either that one or “shift”.
Try it.

For some reason, I cannot put any decimal point in the shift section.

I also found the code in your ebook regarding how to setup starc bands in MT4.

Is that code the most optimized or is there any updated version of it?

Thanks again,

The code was the most updated and was given by other traders on this forum, notably, DodgeV83.

I do not know what is wrong, but DodgeV83 is a computer expert and an expert in MT4.

I suggest that you send him a private message explaining your difficulties and then go from there.

The Starc bands were originally set up by me using GFT Dealbook, a much better charting program for candlestick analysis.

Hello Tymen,

Is MT4 still that much unreliable when it comes to candlestick analysis ?
If so, then I should demo some account that uses Dealbook and place my order on my MT4 account.

Thank You

Not sure which Starc indicator you’re using, but use this one, it has the Tymen settings preset

Note: I didn’t make this indicator (don’t know who did), so I don’t get the credit :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank You Dodge :),
Great youtube videos you have also

Thank you for coming to the rescue, DodgeV83!!

You have answered a question that I would have had a great deal of trouble with!!

there was a site once, i’ve forgotten which, that had over a THOUSAND candlestick patterns. talk about PA!

And how do you propose to memorize all those?!! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

I am starting to get frustrated with MT4 timeframe customization.
I am going to start using GFT Dealbook. Things might be less clunky and more efficient.

You will find Dealbook so far superior that you will never look back at MT4 again.

Guy’s, for example a bearish engulfing has made, do you take account the wick? for example the previous bar high is higher than the engulfing bar high. sorry for a noobish question.

G’day all,

I am in the process of learning the UM strategy and am setting my Dealbook account with the settings. The problem I am having is Dealbook does not seem to like having so many individual windows open. I have all the majors covered(USD/CHF, USD/JPY, EUR/USD, GBP/USD, AUD/USD) with all the timeframes gives me 50 active windows open at any one time.

I have a pretty good PC with 6GB of Ram and a 64bit i7 CPU so system resources shouldn’t be the problem. It seems to be a problem with Dealbook not being able to have so many active charts at one time. It is just constantly crashing saying that it has run out of resources.

Has anyone had similar problems and is there a simple fix? It seems to be while I am setting up the Bollinger Bands and Starc bands on the charts. I’m figuring I’ll get a better answer from the traders on here rather than GFT call centre staff as you guys understand what needs we have for this strategy.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I had these same issues and more. Constant disconnecting (even in the middle of a trade), where the only way to fix it was restarting the program, slowness when opening multiple charts, I couldn’t even zoom-in as much as I wanted, because the software insists on keeping both the top and bottom BB visible at all times.

My fix? I moved back to MT4.

Thanks for the reply DodgeV83,

I’ll try and get a solution because I do like using Dealbook and installing and learning another program would be very time consuming. I’ve already switched from using Market Analyst 6 which is a pretty good program but it does not have the Starc band tool which is obviously needed for the UM strategy.

DodgeV83, are you using the UM strategy live at the moment? I’m in Australia and am looking at using it in the afternoon/evening my time. That would be the open and complete session of the UK and if I stay up late enough the open of the US. From what I have seen so far there seems to be enough patterns on offer. I am still at the stage of learning to pick the good patterns from the bad but I’ll get there eventually.

I’ve seen your videos on youtube and they are quite good. Good for newbies to see how it all comes together.

Hi DodgeV83
I’ve tried numerous times to follow your setup video regarding STARC bands but when you copy files into the experts folder i get lost because i am using FXCM’s station. Everytime i try to copy to FXCM it says error and will only allow lua. files.
Hope you have an idea because i wold like to keep trading with FXCM.

Cheers
Paul

Sorry I missed this, no I’m not using it live. If you don’t want to learn a completely new program, I recommend using MT4 just for charting and your normal platform for trading.

Same thing here. The Starc bands only work with MT4, I recommend using an MT4 demo like IBFX for charting then FXCM for trading.

Thanks for the reply dodge.

Anyway i’ve managed to find a STARC indicator at fxcodebase.com but the settings are different from Tymens bands. There is only 3 settings - multiplier (2), No. of MVA periods (6), No. of ATR periods (15) so my next question would be is it possible to set these bands with the same parameters as Tymens.

Sorry if i sound like a dufus. I’ve never tried to install custom indicators before.
Thanks Paul
