Anomalies in "Activity" listings(?)

Sometimes (for example, right now) a thread shows up on my screen, where I see the list of recently active threads, and in the “activity” column (the right-hand column) it will show the most recent activity in the thread as something like, say, “5 hrs” or “6 hrs” or whatever.

And I take a look at the thread, and occasionally start writing a reply to the last post in the thread.

I did this just now, but noticed that in spite of its being displayed as a recently active thread, the post to which I was intending to reply was in fact made 4 years ago!

Is this an anomaly with my account, or is it the same for everyone?

If (as I suspect) it’s the same for everyone, and the reason might sometimes be that another post was recently removed from the thread (maybe by a moderator? I’m guessing!), would it be a good idea for that thread NOT to be included in the “recently active threads” listings, so that people don’t inadvertently bump these threads and keep them active when they shouldn’t be?

It’s just a suggestion! @pipstradamus @penelopip

I know that when you try to post in an ancient thread, you get that blue pop-up notifying you that the thread hasn’t had a post in it since the Boer War, and asking you if you’re sure you want to post there (and I see that that’s a good thing, not a bad thing!) but the bots that frequent the forum don’t take any notice of it at all, do they? So I hope nobody will object to my mentioning that it’s perhaps of rather limited value and asking whether “de-listing” the thread might actually be far preferable, when something like that has happened, rather than just removing the offending post but leaving the thread “active”?

Anyway, that was my suggestion, and it’s well-intentioned.

And thank you for the forum, as well as the school, and for all you do for the trading community. :sunglasses:

Thanks for the feedback. This could be an edit to a reply within the topic, or a change to the topic title. It’s also possible that another member “bumped” that topic to bring it back to life, but that “bump” was removed by a moderator or admin. There are a couple of specific things that could be happening.

If you provide me with an example topic URL, I can do some additional digging for you.

Thanks!

It’s ok, thank you. All worked out and understood, now.

Yes - this was what was (and is) happening, in the threads I was asking about.

It seems rather unfortunate that when that happens, the thread stays listed on the front page and is therefore quite often “re-bumped” by another bot even after the initial bot-bump has been removed by a moderator.

My respectful suggestion for avoiding that (relatively common) problem is in my post above, but thanks again for your reply above.
