Bid - Ask or Ask - Bid?

Hi,

  1. In this forexpedia it says:

The bid/ask spread is the difference between the bid and ask price.”"

  2. Question:

Instead of “difference between the bid and ask price.”, it should be “difference between the ask and bid price.” ?

    Reason 1:
Bid - Ask = Negative number
Ask - Bid = Positive number (like the example from the picture from the forexpedia)

    Reason 2:
In the same forexpedia it says “… the SPREAD is the difference between the buy (ASK) and sell (BID) price.

Thank you !

i think it’s purely a semantic point, really?

the difference between 3 and 9 is the same as the difference between 9 and 3, isn’t it? they’re both 6?

In mathematics, I have some doubts that it would be the same, especially if we are talking about the balance account in Forex.

In philosophy, it can be anything true or the same, like 1 + 1 = 3 (not 2).

So, is Forex in the world of mathematics or philosophy ?

i can see why my reply above doesn’t help you, in that case

sorry, but i imagined what i said was objective and non-contentious - we just disagree, then :flushed:

The text says it is “difference between”, not “difference of”.

If the text said difference of the bid and ask, this would be incorrect, because as you say the ask is the greater number and a negative difference makes no sense in this context.
