Bitcoin fees average almost hit $6 - sign of popularity or the problem to BTC adoption

The Coindesk article references that fees were at 1 year highs in mid April, at between $1 and $2 We were sitting at more than double that at the end of May ($5.71), about a month and a half later, and currently sit at $3.41.

How can BTC hope for global adoption with rates this high??

I really am wary of this global adoption. If anything, I think it will really just be a store of value.
