Call from Broker

I opened a demo account with Oanda in the night and on the following day I got a call from an individual that claims to be an Oanda employee. I am concerned since I have never received any call from any broker before while using there demo accounts The individual sent me a mail but i have not opened it as I feel it might be sort of fishing (scam trap). Could anyone please confirm me if this is a normal for Oanda before i go ahead an open the mail?

I am also not aware of brokers who contact when you open a demo account. Since you have the dilemma or doubt about the email as phishing link or scam I will suggest you to open their website and contact their support and mention the message received to you. Ask if it’s normal and then proceed.

Good advice! I am also suggesting to use their live chat support and knowing the actual history! But, sometimes, brokers do so.

Actually many brokers have this kind of practice, to call their clients who have demo accounts in order to try to persuade them to open live and make a deposit. Most traders are quite annoyed by it which is quite understandable. I also do not like this practice, for me it’s not a good service but regardless of our opinion they do it anyway. So if you are concerned, like RahiFx suggested, better contact their support and ask them what is this about. Keep us posted

I have been called by brokers in that manner.
Did you give the broker your real number? If no, you should definitely be suspicious. If you did give your real phone number it’s probably best to call the broker and ask them whether they placed such a call to you.

Happens all the time. A demo account is a sales lead for a broker. They want you to go live asap so the can begin to profit from you.

Take your time and dont let anyone rush you into a live account.

Best of luck to you.

If I were you, I wouldn’t worry as I’ve been called by Alpari, and JustForex. They asked me about my plans for live accounts, and that’s all. They also sent mail to me.
So, I don’t see anything dangerous.
But if you want to be 100% sure, ask their online support if they really have such an employee

Could be standard practice for some
It’s a sales pitch possibly to get you to deposit some real cash

It does sound a little unusual I would just contact them myself and find out if it’s legit or not.

This is a great question. I haven’t heard of this myself. To be honest I usually use BTC to sign up with so its only a phone number and email. At least now I won’t be surprised if it happens to me.

I’d say it probably is them, to try and persuade you to open a live account since you’re on demo at the moment. If they call again you could ask them to remove your number.

Do not worry about the call, just make sure that the email in communication is with the Oanda domain. if possible forward to mail to the general Oanda customer service email to confirm if it is from them. Always make deposit directly from their website and not send to some random account. You;ll be safe if you are cautious.

I don’t think that any broker contacts its customers over the call, especially when you are on your demo account. It would have possibly been someone trying to scam you. So, I suggest not opening the link again and stay away from such things so that you don’t put your money at risk.
