Candlesticks rendered useless by moving charts?

Fooling around with my demo account and looking at candles sticks I noticed that as the candles sticks range and move higher or lower, that if you want to scroll back the actual visual of the candles dances up and down as the graph adjust to the fluctuation in price. Often candlestick formations that looked like they formed a recognizeable formation, looked much different upon closer inspection.

Doesn’t this render visually looking at charts useless? The way the chart warps makes it look tottally different than if you were able to print it out or scroll without the chart deforming because of price.

Is there a way in the oanda demo to lock the chart and just have the prices move and follow it, and if you want to see the top and sides scroll without causes this deformation? That is move the chart around inside of the time and price grind and just have time and price deform to the chart.

hi there

google metatrader, its free and you will find the quality of the charts much better then Oanda.

Oanda, great broker and low spreads, but their charts are not great.

Which brings up another question. If you like broker but not their charting package how do you trade from a different chart? Just find the price on the chart you like and type that in your order?

Got a link? I googled metatrader, found metatrader 4 client and when I opened it said I needed an account with IB.

Open a demo account with IBFX.

Thanks for the tip.

For your question, the chart shift like that because as you scroll, the up and downs change the rate of currency, which is needed to fit in the window. The only thing that changes is the length of the candle not the values. The same setup will still be viewable, but it’ll either be smaller or larger candles as you scrub the window.

As for trading, I use an FXDD Metatrader demo while placing my trades with Oanda. It works very well. Since most brokers are reporting similar buying points there won’t be much of difference between the two.

I do the same thing, except with an IBFX account. The quotes between IBFX and Oanda are usually within 2 pips of each other. Most people I know that use Oanda as a broker use MT4 do their charting…
