Commercial forum - performance review ideas

I don’t know why there isn’t a vendor section of the forum. There are so many vendors like Chris Capre etc floating about on different sections that barely masquerade as discussions that its very arbitrary to who is considered commercial and who isn’t. I don’t see the problem with advertising as long as people have verified performances. Let me rephrase then: should be a vendor section with verified performances, a vendor section without verified performances (where most of the trash should go), and the rest of the forum left for discussion.

Hey JackMarkets,

I wanted to get your opinion on the verified performance feedback system you mentioned in the OP. What kind of things would you look for in verification/rating system that would make you feel comfortable in laying your trust with a particular system/broker/product/service? Just member reviews? I assume you would take the word of a friend over someone you just met, or you’d be more willing to listen to someone that’s been a member of this website for a couple years and not just a day. So what things are important to you, and in what order/weight of importance/combination?

Things to consider:

[ul]
[li]Needs to be a registered member[/li][li]Post count[/li][li]Someone on your friends/buddylist (the Friends list is very basic in nature. Just a listing with no other benefit to the members that are friends)[/li][li]Length of membership (the longer a membership the more likely you are to trust a review)[/li][li]Member reputation based on post reviews by other members (not something currently offered)[/li][li]Other[/li][/ul]

This feature of a commercial forum has been difficult for us to develop. Rather than just a free-for-all listing, we think something more comprehensive would offer a better value.

Your feedback would be appreciated, as would anybody else’s.

This is open to anyone. Thanks!

If you do it by post count all that will happen is you get some very patient “fishers” who will post a bunch of generic posts until they get the appropriate number of posts… Then they post their “manure” and leave…

Take a look at David Jeffersons thread… You know… The guy who had 1000+ posts to his thread in a month… Opened a PAMM… Blew the thousands of dollars worth of investment that mainly babypippers gave him?

There is no real way to do it besides just opening a section “for commercials” to go fishing for the novices to their hearts content… Place a big “Caveat Emptor” and let them have at it… Give honorary FX men and mods the ability to “validate” them after 500 posts or so to separate some of the more reasonable commercial members… Have it show a shiny star or something on their avatar… Make some sort of graphical difference in the avatar to make it very clear that they are at babypips to peddle.

Don’t allow them to post in the general forum… And STRICTLY enforce the existing “no advertising” rule in the regular threads… I mean actually enforce it.

CHARGE them to register as a commercial account… This will weed out 90% of the bad eggs right off the bat… Plus if they are going to be making money off of YOUR infrastructure and members… Get a cut of it!

Why not require a FXBook link to a real money account? I know some will object to giving it away for free, but I think there are settings to delay updates from every 5? Minutes to say 120 min.
