Computer Builds

These are GREAT!

I go through about one a year. Actually wore a hole in the little mouse pad on the last one.
It goes with me everywhere, and doesn’t take up the space of a full size laptop.

Cheap, and tough, so I really don’t feel bad if I accidentally trash one.

I just back everything up once a week or so on a thumb drive. I do have a desktop, but it’s for a different purpose.

You know what will be great… The Microsoft surface… A tablet with fully functioning windows programs… Booyah!!!

Until you derail as many threads as I have, it’s all good.

I have 1 desktop which I use for most things. & 1 notebook I use for short term testing mainly.

But most of my trading is done at the Equinix centre in New York.
Hyper-V server
Under 0.5m/s latency.
Connected directly by fibre optics to the broker’s server in the same building.

I thought you were going to say, “this is my ‘OLD’ computer”…heh

I know I would if we had them here, going to have to import.

I can actually see myself cracking one of these open in a local pub during lunch!

The problem I have with our ‘big computers’ is noise and heat dissipation.
I’m sure there is a silent electro-thermal cooling process that can take all that heat and turn it back into usable electricity.

Pitty about the 8GB RAM though, hope its upgradable. :58:

I think my PCs are more impressive than that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Is that a CoolerMaster case by any chance? I think I have the same one on one of my previous builds and loved it

it is!
I chose it cause I was on a limited budget and it had the most room for expansion. I gotta say its awesome. So awesome my parents had me build a few computers for their office and I used the same case. I’ve found its really versatile because there’s so many hard drive bays, and it has enough space for two video cards (though I don’t think I’d ever go with that lol) and best of all its pretty cheap.

Awesome machine! is that a cooling gel?

why do you prefer Linux for these? I haven’t used Linux so I have to ask. Thanks

Well first and foremost, Linux is free. Since I want to eventually have another computer running the database and statistical analysis as opposed to having it on a virtual machine, I don’t want to have to buy another copy of windows 7 just to run my database and statistical analysis when there’s a free operating system available.

Secondly, I’ve always heard/read that linux is better for things that you want running all the time without having to shut off as the updates are done in real time.

Lastly, I’m taking a unix/C class in university so I figured it’d be good practice to put on my resume that I set up and maintained a mysql database and did statistical analysis with “R” on that database in case the whole forex thing doesn’t pan out haha.

Gel in a computer? Does it flow?
