Here’s another setup I see as being potentially profitable. S/L will be just behind tha bottom of tha formation, T/P will be tha 50% retracement of tha entire leg. I will be manually managing this trade in order ta break even as soon as possible. Here’s a pic, and I’ll update later. Happy trading.
Edit: Here’s a pic of tha trade as of a few min ago. I was around when tha breakout happened and almost closed tha trade out right above tha consolidation but I decided ta hold off and let it run. Hopefully I made tha right decision.
Here’s another trade I think I will take on tha GU. It’s correlated ta tha GJ trade, playin’ back into tha trend IMO. I will open 2 lots and close tha first and B/E at tha blue line and tha second at tha green line. Tha red line will be my S/L if tha trade is filled. Happy trading.
Edit: Got +19.7 and +11.9 pips on this trade. Second pic shows results.
Here’s a trade I set up last nite. I got stopped out initially for -17 pips but I reentered in tha exact same spot. I fell alseep before tha trade was entered so I didn’t get ta fill my target levels but I posted a pic of what they would be. S/L would be tha red line, entry on grey, first take and B/E at blue, close final on green. When I woke up my 1st traget was hit for +18.4 pips. Tha second half was up +70 pips so I closed it out for +76.8. Normally I would leave it alone and trail, but I need ta stop trading in order ta switch accounts. I’ll be back.
I wasn’t supposed ta trade but I couldn’t help it. I’ve been watchin’ this pair all day waitin’ for an in. I got in at a slightly worse entry than I hoped but we’ll see what happens. Happy trading.
Edit: Loss -29.2 pips
… on to tha next 1…
Here’s a current trade. I think I got in too early but I’ll follow through with tha plan.
Edit: Got +15.7 on this one. I trailed it kinda tight and got stopped out before I even reached my first target. Came real close though. Anyway, a win’s a win. On to tha next 1…
Happy Trading
Current trade. Entry, S/L and T/P levels are all shown. I got into this one early as well. I need to work on my timing. Anyway, I’m scaling in backwards ta better my R:R and limit my losses. I’ll update soon. Happy trading.
Edit: Loss -15.6 pips ave. between tha two positions. Got stopped out by 2 or so pips. Same thing with my AJ trade earlier. I will review my S/L and backtest ta see if I can reduce tha number of trades that get stopped out prematurely. Happy Trading.
Question for whoever cares to answer: Of the trendline traders out there; what’s your favorite way to draw trendlines? Inner Lines or on wicks? One line or many updated lines? Or even one line continuously updated? I prefer the latter but I’d like to hear from you guys. Also; which of you trade bounces versus those that wait for a break? which do you believe is more profitable in the end?
Okay!! First trade since my hiatus. This will be the first trade of my ‘Shoot for tha Stars’ revival so I’m excited! I’ll try to at least post one pic from every trade to both show what I did and why, and to avoid overtrading (it’s hard to overtrade when you have to document everything). Anyway, here are the details:
Trade - Buy E/U
R:R - 1:2
Entry - 1.29731
T/P: 1.30817
S/L: 1.29317
Risk: 2%
**Notes:
I acknowledge that we normally don’t trade on Sunday but this was a limit that I spied from Friday of last week, plus it’s against the trend so I’m hoping that the big boys don’t step in until 2morrow.
Also, I’m following the rules of my strategy but because it’s against the consensus, I lowered my position size. I’ll b/e as soon as possible.
**Edit:
Closed this trade out after gettin’ blown out of A/U and G/U trades for no loss or gain but re-entered a little while ago at pretty much tha same price. Here’s what tha chart looks like now. We’ll see what happens…
Here’s another on the 8hr G/U
Reasoning: Pinbar/ Trendline bounce
Trade - Buy G/U
R:R - App. 1:2
Entry - 1.53590
T/P - 1.54436
S/L - 1.53111
Risk - 2%
**Notes:
T/P set just under previous low/ new resistance. S/L set beneath pin-bar.
Happy Trading
**Edit: Got blown out of this one earlier today. No regrets on this one.
Here’s another…
Reasoning: Trendline cross/ correlation
Trade - Buy A/U
R:R - App. 1:2.5
Entry - 1.00045
T/P - 1.01501
S/L - 0.99599
Risk - 2%
**Notes:
Jumped in front of a train!! Lol, lookin’ to b/e as soon as possible. I also set a partial t/p at the nearest fib line because my target (the nearest significant low/ new resistance) is a bit aways and even with the partial take I’ll still have a R:R better than 1:2. We’ll see what happens.
Happy Trading
**Edit: Got blown out of this earlier today. In retrospect I saw it working against me early on but I allowed it to play out. I still feel that my decision was valid so I don’t regret taking this trade. Maybe I’ll stick to crosses that favor the trend lol.
Lots of signals… may have to close my platform lol
Here’s what I’m lookin’ at:
Reasoning: Trendline break on 30min TF, correlation, break below inside bar
Trade - Sell U/J
R:R - App. 1:3
Entry - 101.867
T/P - 100.843
S/L - 102.172
**Notes:
Another train… so b/e as soon as possible. T/P based on fibs. Partial take at first fib because the trade is counter-trend and t/p is a ways off. Really Good R:R even with partial take. Haha, I feel like I’m standing out with my shorts down but it always feels that way when trading breaks. Fingers crossed but I’ll learn either way…
Happy Trading
Risk - 2%
This is just a mobile update, I’ll post photos when I get home but got blown out of A/U and G/U. Closed both the E/U and the U/J out early 'cuz of bad pa. No loss or gain on those two. Catch ya later.
New trade on E/J
Reasoning: Trendline break on 30min TF, possible correction
Trade - Sell E/J
R:R - App. 1:2.7
Entry - 132.154
T/P - 131.614
S/L - 132.350
Risk - 2%
**Notes:
T/p set at the most recent significant support level, S/L set just behind the most recent high before the cross. The blue line underneath is actually a high that was broken earlier that can be seen on higher TF’s. I’m pretty sure that tha price can come down to re-test that new support but I’m fighting the temptation ta move my T/P. A little better than 1:2 is good enough for me. We’ll see how this one pans out…
Happy Trading :54:
**Edit:
Trade looked AWESOME early on! Almost like I called it perfectly! Unfortunately I moved my S/L Just behind my entry/ last high when it made the new low and when price rebounded I got stopped out. Very small loss. No worries though; followed my plan so I’m happy… could have been worse. Good trade IMO.
**Edit:
Thought I’d share a screenshot from a little later. Looks like my T/P would have been hit if I didn’t micro-manage. However, I followed my plan so I’m not upset.
New trade on A/U
Reasoning: Trendline break on 30min TF, possible correction
Trade - Buy A/U
R:R - App. 1:2
Entry - 0.99702
T/P - 1.00577
S/L - 0.99389
Risk - 2%
**Notes:
T/p set at fib levels with a a partial take, S/L set just behind the most recent low before the cross. EXTREMELY aggressive entry!! Again; setting moderately conservative T/P IMO. The closest significant resistance I can see is closer the the 50% fib but I’d be happy to get out at the 38%. Sheesh, tha hardest part really is getting out…
Happy Trading
**Edit:
Got stopped out of this one too. I moved my stop just underneath the newest low that was created so my loss was small. I need to be less hasty and trade crosses in the right direction but a good trade overall IMO.
Yet another… this time on G/J
Reasoning: Trendline break on 30min TF, triangle breakout
Trade - Buy G/J
R:R - App. 1:2
Entry - 155.567
T/P - 155.876
S/L - 155.443
Risk - 2%
**Notes:
T/p set at 38% fib level, S/L set just behind the most recent low before the cross/ under triangle bottom trendline. Another fairly aggressive entry. I didn’t mark off the triangle because it’s kinda hard to do with Oanda but it’s pretty easy to see. This trade shouldn’t take too long; I’ll close early if it doesn’t move quickly because it’s a breakout so by definition it should … uh… breakout lol.
Happy Trading
**Edit:
Lol, closed it accidentally for a small profit. PA was a little scary but I meant ta hold on a little longer. Not complainin’ though, all is good…
Trade looked AWESOME early on! Almost like I called it perfectly! Unfortunately I moved my S/L Just behind my entry/ last high when it made the new low and when price rebounded I got stopped out. Very small loss. No worries though; followed my plan so I’m happy… could been worse. Good trade IMO.
As a wise man once said: “Never place your stop losses where everyone else is placing theirs”.
I could learn a lot from this journal of yours. Thanks for writing down your trades here.
Kindest regards,
J
Very true… but my strategy calls for me to limit my risk/ losses and a break beyond that high would be a signal that the ‘trend’ was ending. Sucks that it went against me but again; could have been worse…
No problem bud! Don’t misunderstand me though; I’m still very much a beginner. I’m using this as an opportunity to learn. I’m hoping that more experienced traders will chime in every once in a while but if not, that’s ok too. Plus it’s kinda cool ta have a visual record so I can nitpick.
New trade…
Reasoning: Trendline break on 30min TF, broken support, possible retrace
Trade - Sell U/J
R:R - App. 1:1.5
Entry - 102.264
T/P - 102.004
S/L - 102.442
Risk - 2%
**Notes:
T/p set at 38% fib level, S/L set just behind the most recent high before the cross. Hoping for a simple retrace of the previous move. The trendline that I drew is fairly steep and from my experience those are pretty scary but it was still a strong cross so I decided ta play. I’ll be watching this one pretty closely; I may be on the wrong side. Funny how subjective trading is. T/P is near a previous significant support as well so there is a bit of confluence.
Happy Trading
**Edit:
Thought about it… and… cut my position in half because it was against the trend so currently only risking 1%. I didn’t lose anything on tha reduction; price had moved past the spread.
**Edit:
Here’s an update. There seemed to be strong movement in favor of tha trade so I decided to attempt ta fade this move. I’m not very experienced at this but I’d like ta at least try. Here’s what I’m lookin’ at…
**Edit:
Aaaannd… I got bumped. Booo!! Oh well, on to tha next one. Not sure if I can say I did anything wrong… maybe I micro-managed? Eh… who knows…
