I agree 100%. Besides hope, I approach forex like I would gambling at a casino. You only play with the money that you can afford to lose. That way, no matter what happens, you end up winning anyways because you didnā€™t blow your entire life savings on it. Plus, you can earn the money and try again. The psychology is the most important key to trading in forex.

one should never depend on forex totally until they are able to pull out for livelihood. and in case of family, where stable income is need, you canā€™t afford to lose everyday. brave and good decision your friend took there.

ā€˜Hopingā€™ is not a bad thing but if hoping is the only thing you rely on always then it means you donā€™t really look at all the major possible outcomes. So it is vital to plan risk management, risk your amount which you can afford to lose and donā€™t let greed and emotions overpower your thoughts.

I so i agree.
Being profitable in trading is hard, cashflow is unbalanced which is why most traders quit. but once you learn and keep a good practice, you will get a good grip over it and will start understanding how to work and make money out of it.

There is no point to lose hope in trading as losses are part of it. So in my opinion it is better either to stop trading for a while to figure out what went wrong or make a detailed action plan for future trades.
