There’s so much I learned from 2022 and it’s nice that I got to somehow record some of my trades with my trading journal here. But I’ve been thinking whether starting a new trading journal would help me start on a clean slate. What do you think? How do you guys do it?
Past is a past, you learned new things, so you can continue the journal, and you will see the difference Regards Greg
It’s all up to you. If you want to refer back to it frequently, perhaps it’s a good idea to condense it, take some notes, and put it some place in your computer for safe keeping. You can create a shorter version in a spreadsheet.
As for me, I’m gonna keep my journal here on the same thread. It’s one continuous blob. haha
31/12. A.M. Update. I have decided to close my lengthy THE FOREX VORTEX DIARY (42,940 words) for a number of reasons. Firstly, I am now a fully-fledged hobbyist trader who has reached what I would call a breakeven pivot point.
While I am still healthy and happily enjoying life, making mountains of money is immaterial. As such, I’m aiming to take a lengthy holiday in March 2023 travelling around southern Thailand.
On my return to Chiang Mai, I am considering writing a light-hearted trading book based on my experiences over the last couple of years.
I have plenty of mistakes to share…
You are free to start a new trading journal or continue with the old one. However, setting goals and their implementation are the most important aspects, and you should concentrate on them.
May I suggest you this way? You can capture each trade with a note why you take a trade and past it to excel file (you can use google sheet) then review it every time you want. Each month I create 1 excel file and this one includes which date I have a trade. Below each picture, I will take note the result of each trade.
Get over yourself and the past. You can start a new journal with improved strategies and thorough execution.
I like this idea. I wasn’t a fan of spreadsheets. But my accountant friend talks of them frequently, so I decided to start using them, and they are a great tool.
And yours is great because it has a picture, too. The visual is super helpful when recording trades. A simple data entry isn’t enough because you don’t remember what the trade looked like, but seeing it makes it so much easier to understand.
What do you mean by get over the past? That’s where all the lessons are, right?
Start a new journal if you want. I say start the new journal with a summary of errors/lessons from the previous journal.
Not actually, till now I am following my old one! And of course, I don’t use any paid service!
I started my trading more than 4 years now, so there is no way to make a new additional journal for 2023!
Yes, this year 2023 has just begun and I am about to read the trading journals. They increase trading knowledge and make traders aware of trading news and incidents.
Easy reference might come in handy. Thank you prof!
That’s also a good way to approach it. I honestly didn’t think of doing anything to it before you suggested this. Haha. I might need to create a shorter version with just the important details. \
A very interesting continuous blob! Hahaha
Or just start your new journal with highlights from the last journal…
That’s a much deserved break, Steve! I hope you enjoy it there and the preparations for your trip aren’t stressing you out. Anything in particular that you’re excited to do?
I’d definitely want to get a hold of that book! Let us know if you ever push through with this!
Hmmm. That’s another way too. But I might struggle to pick out “highlights” cause I’m sure I’d be able to find a reason why each entry is a highlighr.
Which reminds me that I have yet to set my trading goals for 2023! I feel like I need to be more specific than “I want to open more trades.”
Super thanks for this suggestion Panda! Haha. I’ll probably implement this starting next month, once I can hopefully trade more consistently.
Perhaps whatever you look at and makes you say ¨oh yeah, that one! that’s still a big problem!¨
If you have a long list, so be it.
