Does having certification such as CFA FSA helps?

Hi everyone.

I will be completing my BSc in Mathematics and Economics. I just want to know some opinions.

I have read up about CFA and FSA. I was wondering, is it worth pursuing these certification exams? I heard about the time commitment for CFA. Does having a CFA or FSA gives me the knowledge and skills needed to apply to the forex and stocks market? Is my knowledge and skills after getting my CFA applicable to the forex and stocks market, so that it can provide me with an edge? I am willing to put in the hours and years. My dream is to be able to trade for a living in 10 years time, hopefully. I was wondering is it worth pursuing CFA or FSA?

Are there any relevant academic certification that allows me to apply the knowledge to the forex and stocks market?

Thanks!

Edit: I have also read about CMT for technical analysis. Is that going to help?

The best way to analyze whether or not the certifications are worth it for trading the markets is to follow the money trail. Look up the average income level of those holding the certifications. For example if the average broker make $60,000 a year and I make 125,000 a year should I really expect the broker to do better at managing money than me?

Hey man! Among those certifications you mentioned, CMT might be most relevant if you’re planning on trading forex and stocks. CFA is more for banking, risk management, or investments IMHO.

It really depends…

If your trying to become an elite trader then only hard work and effort will get you there!

Thanks. After searching through google. I seems to see CMT mention a lot among traders. I think I may go and learn and take the CMT exams.

Thanks!

Having those certificates can definitely be helpful, but that is not guaranty for you to became a successful trader.

The certifications will not make you a better trader. By profession, I’m in the financial world and see guys with a lot of designations who still can’t produce for their clients.

Designations really best serve as marketing material for your clients.

While it does give you some education, it doesn’t inherently make you a better player in the game.
