Hi all. I found an expert advisor that sets a trailing stop and have tried to compile the mq4 file but when I open it in metaeditor and click on compile it says compiling… and never finishes. I have the same problem with any mq4 file I try to compile. I’m running Windows 7. It’s probably a compatibility issue. If anyone has any ideas as to how I can solve this problem please let me know.
No doubt this is related to Windows 7, if this the first time you tried to use an EA on it. In which folder did you install MT4? Using the default /Program Files will cause problems; but I don’t remember ever reading about the symptoms described here. You might want to search for Windows 7 threads from several years ago. I can’t remember all the details, but I think they had advice about how to work with Windows 7. The first thing I would do is re-install MT4 in another folder - say My Documents.
I have windows 7 and haven’t had any problems with EAs. The only problem I have is with “permissions” on some folders where it won’t let me save files unless I had the right security setup according to my “user” type ie Administrator, User, etc…what a pain that is.
If it says that below, then that’s a successful compile and it found no errors or warnings. You probably just need to close and re-open MT4 and it should be listed in the Navigator window.
It turned out to be the stupidest thing that I’m almost embarrassed to admit it. I discovered that if I clicked on “allow live trading” in the properties of the expert advisor when I load it onto the chart it works fine. Sorry for the trouble and thanks for all your suggestions.
Hey, no problem…that’s what this site is all about
If you want all future EAs to run without having to set that feature on each time, go into Tools->Options->Expert Advisors, and check that box there.
