EAs vs Scripts

Hello,

I have a trading system that I would like to have automated. I got a quote from a broker that provides EA programming services, but the quote was much more than I wanted to pay. I was wondering if a Script can do what I want instead. How powerful are scripts? I would like to execute a script on a chart that can execute the same trade that an automated system can perform. Is this possible with scripts?

Thanks,
Don

Scripts only perform an action once.

Example: If you have many orders open right now, you can quickly run a script that closes all the trades at market value. Or OrderDelete all pending orders or just a certain type such as BuyStops or SellLimits.

So a script cannot be made in an EA ever.

As far as your dilemma goes, my Skype is right below my username, give me a message. I typically don’t charge anything.

Scripts are for one time execution tasks, such as creating several pending orders. They are not suitable for tasks that require repetitive actions like trade management and checking for an entry signal. Don’t spend money and time on an EA until you have thoroughly tested it manually.

Thanks for the replies guys. I understand that scripts are for one time use, but I was hoping that if the script is programmed to perform my trade strategy, if it can be executed on the chart once I drag/drop it? I would then manage the trade from there, unless scripts can be used to manage the position as well. Am I making sense?

It wouldn’t work like that. It could only enter a simple order, but then it would be done. Basically the script runs once, then terminates. An EA is really the only thing you can have to accomplish a task like that. And CodeMeister is right, make sure your system performs well manually and with enough data to warrant further pursuing automating it.

The system appears to be performing well manually, and that’s why I’m considering having it automated at this time. Do you guys charge by the hour for coding?

If the system is simple enough, I code it for free.

You wouldn’t happen to be located in southeast USA (in particular Alabama) would you? I would prefer to work closely with someone locally, but I’m having a hard time finding forex traders in Alabama. Does this forum allow member search by state?

I live in Western Canada.
