Have you ever regretted trading? What kept you going?
Ooooh! This is such a great question, I think.
Haha. I hate to admit it, but I did have moments when I regretted trading. That was especially back when I was maybe a year in? I thought that at that point, I should be earning a lot but instead, I just kept on losing, I lost all motivation.
Being here helped me though. Reading the advice from members kinda made me have faith in trading again. And I realized that I’m doing it more for fun than really to sustain my living expenses.
I’m just happy I get to treat my husband to dinner every once in a while.
He’s probably a very lucky guy, and in more ways than just that. Belated, happy “big birthday” to you, @ria_rose , wishing you a great next decade.
Never regretted & never will. The only regret is I should have started in my 20’s. The money is there, right in front of people…you only need a good technique to pull it out
No
Money—someone have to pay the bills.
I have been doing it for 11 year, so of course there were some tough times, but on the whole I don’t regret. This made me a happy person, because it allowed me to use my brain much more than before.
I truly believe that if any trader says they’ve never regretted trading, they’re not being honest. Everyone has those moments, taking a dumb loss, overleveraging, breaking rules, or missing an obvious setup. What kept me going was the understanding that regret is part of the process. As long as you learn from it and don’t repeat it, those regrets eventually become the foundation of consistency.
In all honesty, I have never had a moment of regret trading. It is, rather, the hope glued to my chest that I would master the markets someday that helped me sail and navigate a different path away from the treacherous sea of regret where many ships have sunk.
Ouch!
I agree. Imagine how different your life could’ve been if someone in your circle of family and friends reached out to you and taught you how to trade, in your 20s.
Jeez Louise. You’d be much further ahead and you’d be teaching someone else as well, passing the torch.
Yup. What an alternative way to live. The market is going up, you can make money. The market is going down, you can make money.
And the best part is that you truly have independence. You can work where and when you want.
All you gotta do is take the time to learn.
Yup. People like to down play how important money is.
“Money isn’t everything.” Yeah, sure. As long as you live deep in the woods away from civilization.
If you want access to hospitals and running water, you’re gonna have to join society. And without money, you can’t do squat. There will always be bills.
You can pay them from money you earn at a job you most likely hate, or from trading at home in your pajamas.
It’s not a difficult choice.
Well said. Like poetry!
None of this has ever left me feeling regretful; still, it caused me to reconsider my trading strategy and make necessary changes.
lmao, 100% Facts
Sometimes, yes. when it gets overwhelming, especially after losing a couple of trades in a row. But I’ve never given up, and I don’t intend to.
one thought kept me going despite the repeated failures, that the only way for me to lose is if i quit and i was right, 14 years later im here trading forex making a good amount, nothing crazy but way better than what i hoped for 10 years ago.
Yeah, I’ve had moments I wished I hadn’t traded mostly after losing money. But I kept going cause I knew it was all part of learning.
First focus on preparing trading plan and then stick to it even if loss occurs. Try to review the trade journal periodically for improvements and better to trade a demo for back testing and forward testing instead of taking every trade on live account.
Yeah, I think “regret” is too strong of a word. For me it’s more like frustration or disappointment, sometimes even being flat-out mad at myself. But not regret in the sense of wishing I hadn’t traded at all.
thats trading forex for you, do not worry, after a while of trading with all that fraustration, it slowly normalize and things will feel easier. haha
There are two kinds of regret:
- The regret of what you should’ve done &
- The regret of what you shouldn’t have done.
“Regret in trading” meant do I feel awkward doing this sh_t for active traders., or do I regret not doing this sh_t for non traders?!
Apparently, as an active trader, I never regretted doing this sh_t., and one thing aside the money I got from trading was the financial literacy that comes with it. Recently, I moved to long-term investment approach even while I still daytrade., using my financial knowledge from daytrading in the stock market, you wouldn’t have believed my portfolio.
