This news from Sky is just 1 hour old. Its unacceptable that more than a thousand homes remain without power, 10 days after Storm Arwen cut off 112,000, especially with Storm Barra imminent.
Perhaps Greg Hands might be the next minister to follow the Gavin Williamson trail out of government, to somewhere where he can do less harm.
Greg Hands is the MP for Hammersmith & Fulham. Hammersmith is 300 miles from Northumberland. Just saying…
I hate being accosted by them, I hate stepping in their urine in shop doorways, I hate their drunken yorping, I hate their afternoon punch-ups, and I hate the fear of a casual robbery when near them.
So I shop and eat out and stop for coffee and meet friends in the suburbs or in the neighbouring small towns and nearby villages.
And so I don’t care if the Vagrancy Act is repealed or not.
The PM’s office is in communications disarray over ChristmaspartyGate. PMQ’s at lunch-time should be pretty interesting.
Sajid Javid has gone underground. Its quite possible he has intimated to the PM that, as Health Minister during a covid crisis, he expects to speak to the nation about health department policy, not whether the PM knew this or that a year ago concerning a party in his own office. I hope so.
Interesting to recall that in the famous Profumo affair, Defence Minister Sir Joh Profumo was forced to resign not after having an affair with an escort who was also friends with a KGB officer, but after lying about the affair. We can live with idiots, but not idiots who must lie about their idiotic behaviour.
Its an old maxim in politics, never open an inquiry if you don’t already know the answer. And the answer should either be that nobody is to blame or hopefully someone who is your enemy.
Its possible the inquiry could establish Boris Johnson actually could run a piss-up…
I was predicting Boris would resign in January 20, on the first business day after the holidays ended. But then along came covid and he was trapped, he couldn’t resign. It would have been like Churchill going off to Corfu on the eve of WWII.
I am sure in essence you are right, he is now looking for the exit route. Finally.
When Boris was appointed leader, his faults were well known. This notoriety could be as a result of his passion for self-publicity and boundless ambition, but objectively their own nature and magnitude in political terms.
Nobody else in the Cabinet has Boris’s faults, either in type or magnitude. Its very possible that one of them could surprise in ability and commitment, areas where Boris was all too predictably weak. At this point, I could rule few of the Cabinet out as better choices.
We’ve just got to remember that the leader is chosen by the MP’s, so its a kind of election by committee. They’re not looking to appoint the best, they’re looking to appoint the best fit.
Many committee choices are simply the least objectionable option, not the absolute best, because absolute choices tend to polarise the membership. The next leader must unite the back-benchers and win the next general election.
Let’s face it, we’re not going to get another Churchill or Thatcher. A Heath or even a Major will probably fit.
Both closet “Europhiles” who mislead the voters on the facts of teh matter to the extent of actually being guilty of Lieing - about their own knowledge of the purposes of the dreadful conspiracy !
Let it be known that if you and your ilk - put up one of these - I shall take away my vote from teh Conservatives and apply it to “Labour” - thereby casting TWO votes against the decision ! - And yes - you can bleat about “dreadful Labour” all you want - me and several millions of “Red-Wall” type “conservatives” will abandon you and you nice little comfy suburban “public servant” type lives and inflict a dose of real Socialism - on you !
We have put up with “grey men” or even “Grey men in frocks” - Long enough !
It seems you’re less concerned with getting the best Conservative leader into office and running the country effectively as PM, more concerned with getting Labour into power. Perhaps we unintentionally agree therefore that keeping Johnson in No.10 would be to Labour’s benefit.
If you deign to read what I wrote instead of casting your own interpretation on it - you will see exactly what I want !
I want REAL Conservative ! - with cajones !
There are massive changes need to be made - and given a choice betwixt the type of garbage we have likely to be on offer and a Starmer - or even a Corbyn - well YES - I’ll vote Labour
Give us Farage, Frost, Cummings and I’ll be entirely on board !
Give us someone - a “compromise to unite the Party” - You’ve just lost several million votes !
Its theoretically possible to see that Farage, Frost or Cummings could acquire eligibility to contest the Conservative leadership, but surely the likelihood in each case is tiny.
As small as the probability of them winning, despite their past achievements. Achievements in politics are often at the expense of colleagues - and the greater the achievement, the more they hate the achiever.
That is very true - Especially among the “Grey men” - I once saved the MOD £1,000,000 in a month and got sacked by way of thanks !
However if you want to actually operate to the benefit of the Country - as opposed to “keeping the Pary comfy” well we have nearly 80,000,000 people in this country and the garbage we see “bobbing up” (“the unflushable turd”) - because they’ve “done nothing wrong” - well it’s time for those of you whose only concern is to progress “the Sons of Gentlemen” organisation to rethink your selection process !
Forgive me if I’m wrong but you seem to be putting that line of argument - that the incompetent are jealous and sulky when faced with competence - As a Valid reason for
That’s not my intention. My point is that successful politicians are not themselves more competent than their colleagues but getting to the top in politics necessarily involves pushing your way forward and pushing others backward more aggressively than the others in your party.
Not to mention the shady political deals and back-stabbing.
The ambitious and successful can be competent or incompetent, and why should they care if the backs they climbed over on the way up belong to competent or incompetent colleagues?
So for every successful politician, there are likely to be 2 or 3 others in the same party who hate his/her guts.
Anyway, while there are competent politicians in the Cabinet, nobody knows who’s going to be a successful PM in practice.
