I am a new user here in babypips as of today.
This is my first post here in this forum and I am not really familiar with forums in general, so please be empathetic to my ignorance.
I have been interested in FOREX for over a year now and have been slowly tinkering infrequently with ways to improve/create strategies. Included is a graph and report with ONE of my possible winning strategies. I am looking for some input to accelerate my learning curve.
So… here is a few questions:
-Do you think this strategy could be profitable?
-What could be the drawdowns?
-It seems to hit a plateau for “SIZE” on the bottom for equity to trade… Why? How to fix?
-What other currency pair is recommended that would would be good to offset/diversify with?
-When setting up a Live account, which broker and VPS is reccommended?
-If starting with say a “micro” account do I have to change the account type when equity hits higher levels if using trades by percentage of free margin?
These are a few questions I have.
Please include some of your results images when replying if possible… Hell maybe we can work out some kind of exchange in private.
The image you posted is WAY too small for anyone to read. But judging by the equity curve, chances are it won’t perform anywhere close to that in a forward test.
I tried to import these images multiple times and it seems to only upload them under 40kb… not sure why…
That back test was, EUR/USD 15min timeframe, 10,000 to 40,000,000, from 2005-2013…
Any reason besides spread that it will not perform good?
I haven’t seen much better anywhere… Well, besides the WCS 1.0 EA on youtube that seems unreal!!!haha
Look into Onada. You’ll see them in some of the ads here on the site. I have been using them for about a year now and I have never had any problems with them. I currently trade micro lots and there is no minimum account balance needed to open a live account. They also have wonderful customer service and low pip spreads. I hope this helps. Happy trading.
Upload them to a picture sharing website, and then post the link instead.
What was the modelling quality? I can’t see any other stats besides a rough sketch of the equity curve. But notice those huge drawdowns when the compounding really took off? That’s a hint.
Take MT4 backtests (even with 99% tick data) with a grain of salt (a big grain of salt)
In short, MT4’s strategy tester is not very reliable. TradeStation does a better job at that.
IMHO, a forward test of a couple of weeks will tell you whether your EA is taking trades as you intend it to (i.e, the fwd test is to verify whether the EA is functioning as you logically intended it to).
Then after ironing out any kinks, put it on a tiny live a/c (real money opens your eyes to what you dont want to see in demo). Then you can figure out your way from there.
