Hi All,
I have just received my bonus from work (yay), and as per my goal at the start of 2008, I was/am going to spend it all on new hardware for FX trading.
Basically, I am going to buy a 4 monitor setup, but have no idea what sort of hardware I need to be able to run it ok.
I don’t want to pay more than I have to, but obviously want to do it right.
Can anyone give me a guide of what sort of memory, processor, etc, I should purchase?
Thanks
I have a separate computer for my trading so I can play games while I’m still monitoring my charts. It’s a 10 year old piece of junk. It runs MT4 just fine. I think you’d have a hard time finding a computer that WON’T run MT4. You really don’t need to worry about memory or processor speed. As long as you’re just doing forex any computer will do just fine.
If you want more monitors all you need is more video cards, or one or two cards that can handle multiple monitors.
Are you just getting started in forex trading? What kind of setup have you been using so far? Does your strategy require you to watch multiple charts/news/websites?
I use a laptop with a monitor hooked up to if for daytrading during the Euro/US overlap… that’s all i need…
Well I think you should be working okay with a core2duo, also with 2GB of ram, and as Phil said if you want to use several monitors you’ll outputs for each monitor and video card for each one two, now I was also wondering why would you use several monitors to trade?
Dont waste your money on useless junk… I bet the computer you have right now is just fine all you want is recognition and possibly bragging rights. I trade of a 19" single monitor and I do just fine… since you are posting in the newbie section I am sure you will not need it BECAUSE you should only be looking at ONE currency anyway… learn one pair and learn it well = profits. I don’t even know what you would do with 4 monitors. Start out small. 2 monitors I can see but even two are not really needed.
Yes, I am posting in the Newbie section and although I consider myself a newbie (Still on demo), I have been trading for over 2 years and know what style suits me now. I get quite frustrated clicking between charts (I often look at 2 charts for the one pair x 3+ pairs). I also like having a forex chat room up too. I figure for the small cost of buying 2 more screens, a bracket and relevant hardware, it would make my trading a lot more pleasant.
It’s all about the video card. Just tell your sales person that you want to run 4 monitors and they should set you up with the correct one. My son has a $100 after market video card and it runs two screens for him fine. (playing world of warcraft). Computer processor speed and such is not a big deal.
