Has anyone ever forgotten about a trade they had open?

I recently had a moment where I completely forgot about an open trade. I had planned to keep an eye on it and didn’t set a stop loss, thinking I’d be able to manage it. But life got in the way, and I ended up forgetting all about it. Has anyone else experienced something similar? How did it go for you?

Yes. Years ago I had an open long on the FTSE100 which I thought I had closed. Weeks later I found it had become one of my best trades that year.

Happy mistake then! Good thing it turned out the way it did.

I feel you! :open_mouth: Sometimes, life just happens and it takes my mind off of the trade I’m watching. :open_mouth: Actually, this has happened to me pretty recently, when I forgot about a trade, but super happy cause it also ended with profits! Haha. If I closed it when I originally meant to close it, I probably wouldn’t even be in the green.

That’s a great surprise to have! I hope my forgotten trade will also turn out to be one of my best!

I’m hoping for a similar outcome! The last time I checked, it was down. haha :sob: Thanks for sharing your story!

Sometimes…It’s a lucky break, and you get away with it, but more often than not, it’s a lesson in setting stop losses.

It hasn’t happened to me yet, thankfully! But I’ve heard stories, it’s like the ultimate facepalm for traders. Keeping notifications on and setting reminders are my go-tos to avoid that little disaster.

Not recently but in the initial days of trading it happened one time thankfully that was just a demo account that just saved my life.

Oh boy, don’t get me started on this. That mistake taught me a good lesson - I’ve been paying to my open much more attention ever since!

I had a similar experience. By the time I checked, it had moved way more than I’d planned for. It was a wake-up call for me as well. Now, I make sure to set a stop loss every time, just to avoid any surprises.
