Hating my mini account!

I am currently using vantagefx to trade using a mini account. I used the demo for about a year, and did really well i thought, ( made 3k into 25k) trading what i saw in the charts. Now in my mini account ( currently at 600 pound) I’m hit and miss. I am doing no different and my emotion towards trades are the same. I wish i had big money to put in but at the minute I haven’t so am stuck with small profits. Help me please build my account cos I really can’t make what I could before.

Also does anyone trade daily for a living is that really possible or just a load of rubbish

thanks if you reply

If you are doing exactly the same thing, then you should be getting the same results. My guess is there’s a little something different somewhere. Go back to demo, and do 20 trades. Shrink your lot size way down, and do the exact same trades (at the same time) on your live account.

If you are truly doing the same thing, then you should have the same results.

If they differ, you’ll know where it is.

Im going to write a simple tick logger, attach one to the demo account and one to the live account at the same time on two different computers and then analyse the resulting logs to see if there are any real differences between the price feeds of a demo and a live account.

If I’m reading it right, you’re basically frustrated with your profits in your 600 pounds account because you’re so used to “nice profits” in your 25K account. It’s not as “fun” as before. You went from 3K to 25K in a year with your demo account, that’s about 833% increase!!! If you could repeat your performance, then your goal for this year is to turn 600 pounds to 5000 pounds (833% if my math is correct). It’s irritating to trade in micros when you’ve experienced trading standard lots. Treat everything (gain/loss) as a percentage not how many pounds. Make it your goal to increase certain percent in your account per week or per month. Regarding your hit or miss, the market always changes. A strategy could work extremely well for two months but could become flat for the next six months. The key as a trader is to adapt to the market. Good luck with your trading.

What kind of system are you using? If it’s ma based I wouldn’t be surprised if you strategy has not coped with the changes in the market.

Not every year in the markets is equal to another. I have a lot of backtests here with bots which perform very well in one year and lose in another. Same settings and all. Which doesn’t mean them are bad. It could be that the good performer year was the exception and the bad year as well. Time will tell if your strat on average makes money in 10 years or not. Watch your drawdown!
