Having trouble closing a position in MT4

I’m just practicing with a demo account, and this is my first demo trade in EUR/USD. I had a sell position that would have been profitable hours ago. The problem is that I can’t seem to exit the position. Even if I elect for instant execution at the current price (now taking a slight loss albeit) I keep getting the ‘off quotes’ message. At this point, I just wanted to test the mechanics of trading and I’m not sure if there’s anything else I can try to exit this position. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Any thoughts would be appreciated as it seems I’m going to be stuck in this position forever.

What broker?

Server says Forex.com-Demo®.

I don’t recall ever formally setting up an account with them (real or demo), rather I just followed the instructions when installing MT4.

Just download another MT4 from another broker, if their demo don’t work too well I suspect live wont.

Ok. Thanks for the responses.

Before I go and sign up for another broker, I just want to confirm that I’m not doing anything wrong mechanically.
I should expect to exit a position within a reasonable amount of time under “normal” trading conditions (like today), but no matter what I try, there’s nothing but Off Quotes messages.

Are there any other checks within MT4 itself I should try before trying this again elsewhere?

Thanks.

Whatever broker you are using right now. Their “Demo” server sounds like it is probably offline, so MT4 is just giving you that response.

Not that I know of, but if your new MT4 is the same, it’s likely you’re doing something wrong, on the other hand if it’s fine, it will be the broker.

It says Forex.com-Demo®. Every time I put a close order in, it says order accepted and then takes about 3 min. before it spits back an ‘Off Quotes’ message.

I guess next step is to try another demo account.

Thanks.

I have no love for Forex.com anyway. I think they are a garbage broker, (Dealing Desk/Market maker “vomits”) Try one of these guys, Mb Trading, IBFX, Oanda or FXCM. Or try all of them.

MB Trading -ECN Broker
IBFX - STP
FXCM - ECN/STP
Oanda - DD, but happens to be one of the very few good ones.

My two cents anyway.

Cheers!,
