Thanks o990l6mh!!
You have said it exactly.
You are a man after my own heart.
Thanks o990l6mh!!
You have said it exactly.
You are a man after my own heart.
Now its my turn.
Yes, the whole thing was a big joke.
To the bitter critics who replied here I sayā¦
But you did stick with the thread to the very end didnāt you!!?
Hmmmmā¦that says a lot.
Now why have I posted this nonsense?
(The computer program, by the way, is a load of rubbish - just is case someone tried to download it).
2 reasons.
1 - I have reached 2000 posts. Only 2 others have done that, Rhodytrader and Dale Paterson.
This gag was simply a celebration, nothing more.
2 - A quote from the FORUM RULES by Pipcrawlerā¦
- Have fun. If you donāt throw in a corny joke with your posts, it will get deletedā¦just kidding! But do try to have fun!
Tymen,
You must be feeling a lot better. Thanks for the joke. Loved the pics that were sideways and upside down. Have enjoyed the ride.
Dollie
Now to the serious messages from this postingā¦
Firstly, Dale Paterson has stated earlier that the weather does affect people.
This is very true.
And to some extent, it may even slightly influence the price action of the forex market.
Secondly, and very importantly, I notice the large number of readers, especially the newbies.
Of course, the experienced traders knew already that I was planning a big joke.
But to the newer tradersā¦
What were you anticipating? A Holy Grail?
There is no such thing!! :o :o :o
That is the strong message of this thread.
So, for you people who have not read this hyperlink, it is time to do so now!!
Note the important pointsā¦
The success rate of indicators is little better than random probability.
Trying to find a system that is perfect is looking for an external solution to what is an internal problem.
What is important is your underlying psychology and how you apply it to the market.
and moreā¦
For those of you who are following, it is now time for me to return to my candlesticks thread.
I will post a number of Starc band use examples there, then post the final PDF.
That will bring the thread to it final end.
I have to say, I probably learned more from this thread than any other threads I have read so far. Here I am thinking I am about to have an excellent trade strategy that I can demo and one day become profitable fromā¦it turns out to be a big celebration joke. Although a little disappointed, it really hammered the notion that there is no holy grail. The thought of a holy grail is so appealing, but I am slowly starting to give up my search and move on to price action/candle stick trading. One day at a time I supposeā¦
Hi Tymen,
Thanks for this thread, I really enjoyed it ā¦and it was nice to discover your fine sense of humour!
Furthermore today in Rome we have a very sunny day, no clouds at all, so very good opportunities for trading EUR long
Ciao
Thank you to SlikRick and Maravizzo for your comments of appreciation.
A nice change from the attacks of all the nay-sayers.
Thanks also to Clint for detecting in advance what the joke was about and to Tonymand for a very witty answer to the rain chart.
I sense that the anger here comes from people who actually expected something useful to arrive.
Personally i was expecting something of this sort and like someone said, this thread was a good exercise in critical thinking.
Have a good weekend all
I would also like to thank you Tymen for this invaluable
thread, read the whole thing today & was very amused.
(Having realised early doors that the title alone gave away
the joke)
For all those who feel that the weather, voodoo, horoscopes,
bio-rhythms, luck or any other mumbo jumbo play a part in trading
then I truly feel sorry for you, you are basically in the wrong
profession.
To all the nay-sayers or imbeciles as I think of them, get a life! :lmao:

Well first:
Congratulations Tymen!!! Well done!!! And thanks for the time spent and for going to the effort of posting all those posts to help others!!!
HOWEVER!!! (There is ALWAYS a ābutā is there not)???
Iām STILL of the opinion that while this MAY have started OUT as a joke itās rekindled this notion that Iāve had that MAYBE environmental factors DO INDEED have an effect ON STOCKS AND COMMODITIES (let me make that VERY clear i.e. I doubt very much āwhether the weatherā would affect the buying or selling of a particular currency DIRECTLY BUT as you well know: there is a VERY strong correlation between stocks, well the S&P 500 anyway, and pairs like EUR/JPY and USD/JPY and OBVIOUSLY expected weather patterns affect the price of a commodity like Soybeans DIRECTLY).
It all comes down to āsentimentā or āperceptionā does it not??? Letās face it: STOCK PRICES know NOTHING of a 50 day or 200 day moving average but the reason STOCK PRICES āhaltā at those moving averages before āchoosingā a future direction is purely because so many people are watching them and will have placed orders at those levels. I know for myself (and why should this NOT be applicable to institutional traders) for example: being used to āsunny skies and Chevroletā (thatās an old South African āquipā) I believe I may have been far more āaggressiveā in my trading on THOSE days than I would have been on cloudy, rainy, and āmiserableā days. Now WHAT IF it could be āprovedā through statistical analysis that rallys on the Dow, for example, more often than not start on a certain type of day and end on a certain type of day??? WHO KNOWS??? If this type of data exists then MAYBE there IS more to this ājokeā than āmeets the eyeā!!! Given enough time and interest I may just try to source this type of information and provide details of correlations (if any)!!!
That ALL being said though: the actual POINT of the ājokeā is well taken and Iād suggest that ALL ātake heedā!!! Let me give you some MORE good advice and some insight (and reiterate Tymenās point): Iāve been at this now for almost two and a half years. If I include all the assets that Iāve had to part with along with actual cash that Iāve lost due to my shortcomings in this business and due to MY OWN search for āThe Holy Grail of Trading Systemsā: then weāre talking about losses in the region of $438K and thatās NO exaggeration and Iām still nowhere NEAR reaching my goals. The sad part: using a single moving average and some sound money management coupled with LOADS of self discipline and patience could have avoided ALL of this!!! And no: a moving average is NOT āThe Holy Grailā but compared to all the complex trading systems Iāve ācodedā and tried itās a far better ābang for buck for time and effort spentā!!! My point: āThe Holy Grailā is WITHIN YOU i.e. itās NOT a trading system thatās been posted or published in painstaking detail. Master the PSYCHOLOGY of this business and youāll be hard pressed to find a trading system that did not make SOME money CONSISTENTLY!!! Yes: some trading systems will be better than others but master the PSYCHOLOGY of this business and you will at very least not ālose your shirtā!!! If you think that youāre simply going to find a trading system around here, open a live account, and watch your account double in hours: then rather give me the money!!! Youāre going to lose it ANYWAY and Iāll bet I need it more at this stage!!!
Regards,
Dale.
Dale you are a good man. Your advice hits home and your honesty is inspiring. I myelf have spend to much time and lost quite a bit of money chasing the easy way out but I have resigned myself to realize that there is no easy way and as of the past couple of months I have been forced into the 4h charts coz of my āreal workā and honestly it has been the best thing to happen to my trading. Im not poised over the market punting at every little hicup. I only have a few minutes during the day so my analysis has to be quick and i don;t have time for anything but 100% bonafide good solid opportunitys. Anything less than that I donāt touch.
Discipline? no of course not i just donāt have the time
Thank you daydreamer65, for your reply.
I am glad you enjoyed the thread.
I rarely hear from you these days.
You must be very busy.
I am sure that this is true, but to what extent, I simply do not know.
And no: a moving average is NOT āThe Holy Grailā but compared to all the complex trading systems Iāve ācodedā and tried itās a far better ābang for buck for time and effort spentā!!!
Yes, some of the simpler approaches are much easier to make money with.
Remember your own threadā¦āParabolic Sarā ?
My point: āThe Holy Grailā is WITHIN YOU i.e. itās NOT a trading system thatās been posted or published in painstaking detail.
Master the PSYCHOLOGY of this business and youāll be hard pressed to find a trading system that did not make SOME money CONSISTENTLY!!!
master the PSYCHOLOGY of this business and you will at very least not ālose your shirtā!!!
Dale.
That there is no holy grail has been the main point of the thread.
That is why Chris Tate" hyperlink here is so important.
In all, thank you for your posts and input Dale, and thank you for reading and contributing.
I hope you enjoyed the laughs as much as I enjoyed posting the thread!!
This will be very good for you.
You are then trading with the major trend and stand much better chances of success.
Im not poised over the market punting at every little hicup.
A very astute way of saying that scalping is very risky - which I also believe it is.
Enough has been said here now.
Unless any one else has anything valuable to contribute to this thread, then I think it appropriate to bring this thread to a close.
Let me put some āhot waterā on the subject
