Hey everyone, I am new here

I’m new here and just moved from demo trading to a live account after a few months of practice. I’m not selling anything just here to learn, contribute, and hopefully become a better trader by engaging with more experienced folks in the community

What was the biggest lesson you learned during your first month of real-money trading?

Hey, welcome!
You’re already in a much better spot than I was when I started. My first account was €500 in 2007. I lost it all in less than two months. I was 17, it was a heartbreaking experience. I wasn’t even legally able to open an account yet, I used my mum’s ID

Probably the biggest lesson I learned early on was that trading isn’t easy, no matter how many people try to sell you on quick fixes or magical methods. You’ll have plenty of “aha” moments, just to see the market prove you wrong, over and over again.
But if you’re persistent, dedicate enough time, and manage to find good resources despite all the nonsense online, you’ll eventually succeed.
Finding genuinely useful resources to improve might be the hardest part. The internet is full of useless advice on trading.

Good luck!

The reality that I hadn’t yet done enough testing to be certain that what I was doing was really a robust, profitable method, and that therefore not only was my position size much too big, but I should still have been on a simulated account.

I thought I was “trading” but was actually just gambling.

That’s definitely right!

You were far from alone, there. Perhaps mostly because the internet’s full of useless advice about trading. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Yes @fedegmail trading is not easy it’s correct 100%. You know I did some trading in the past but in crypto and I lost my money due to my account freeze in the binance and currently I am trying my luck in forex because crypto become very hard to predict currently

I see a lot of people saying similar things, right now.

I also see some people saying that forex is becoming very hard to judge at the moment (maybe mostly because of the USD and specifically Trump?) so they’re trying their luck on the indices instead.

Hard to know what to do?! :stuck_out_tongue:

Being flat is a position (and a decision), too.

Welcooooome! I think the people here are really nice and helpful so I hope you also enjoy your stay here! If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask. :stuck_out_tongue: I’ll try to help but I’m sure the others would give much better advice.

Hmmmm. That demo trading is very different from live trading. :open_mouth: Technically, emotionally, psychologically. Because there are lots of things you didn’t consider (like spreads, losing money), that you now have to consider since you’re dealing with real money. :open_mouth:

Thank you very much for such a very warm welcome! Everyone’s aura here feels really positive, and that is just an added thing to make me at ease.

Absolutely, the psychology behind being convinced of going through for operating on demo versus live operations really very much differs! The minute a hard-earned attract “Pip” on the screen, it feels like it is coming directly to you. :grimacing: I have, by experience, discovered that risk management tips and the great control of emotions can be as important as strategy or even more sometimes! :brain::money_with_wings:
