Lately anxiety has taken its toll on me and been affecting my sleep and therefore I am no longer the person I was before, also it has drastically affected my trading, where to go about this?
go to psychologist or change trading method
First thing is stop trading. You won’t trade well if you’re feeling so bad and trading badly will make you feel worse.
Then immediately you must go and find someone to talk to about how you feel. You might have friends, relatives, clubs, neighbours, other traders, helplines to call. Even if you’re not a member of a certain church they’re unlikely to turn you away if you have a real need of support.
Don’t expect to hear a quick and easy answer from anyone. A great thing you can hear though is questions - as they try to understand you, you must try to understand yourself - it’s you who needs the answers, not them - they’re your questions, not theirs, they are just saying them out loud.
If you have technical trading questions, these are the easiest to answer and the easiest to put right. Post them up here at babypips. But still don’t trade yet.
I’m really sorry to hear you’re going through this. Anxiety can indeed take a heavy toll on both your personal well-being and aspects of your life like trading, where focus and clarity are so crucial. It sounds like it might be helpful to take a step back and prioritize your mental health. Seeking support from a therapist or counselor can be incredibly beneficial. They can offer strategies to manage anxiety and improve your sleep. Also, consider incorporating stress-reduction techniques into your daily routine, like mindfulness, exercise, or hobbies that relax you. Remember, it’s okay to take a break and focus on your health
I’m very sorry to hear it and wishing you well!
I strongly suggest making sure that the person you initially go to for help/advice/referral, in the first instance, is someone who has been to medical school, has MD after his/her name and is licensed to practice medicine wherever you live, not a “counsellor” or “therapist” whose qualifications and experience might be unfamiliar and/or unclear to you.
It’s rather like ensuring that your “broker” is properly regulated: it just avoids about 99% of avoidable accidents.
Thank you so much and the others, I am trying my best.

Hi Jenirogan, I am sorry to hear you have difficulty sleeping. You are not alone, and the advice from others is all good advice too. I have suffered poor sleep for about the last five years and have been diagnosed with sleep apnoea about 3 years ago. This may not be good for everyone, but I was fortunate enough last year to reach out to many friends after my wife passed away, when things just seemed to get an order of magnitude worse. I am blessed with a lot of friends in my life, from many places in the world I have travelled. I speak to close friends in Australia, America, Albania, Egypt, Qatar, UAE, Wales, Scotland and many other places. They don’t need to be physically close to you. Be sure you speak to the right people in your life. Many people with good intentions will tell you that you just have to snap out of it. My father used to say that to my mother when all she needed was someone to talk to that sympathized or empathized with her. My wife had a close friend who is a Reiki healer, a card reader and a medium. I have grown very close to this lady and her circle of spiritual friends, and besides the obvious General Practitioner and specialist MD advisors, my anxiety, sleep, weight and other primary indicators of poor health have all vastly improved in the last year. I try to meditate twice per day - about 10 minutes in the morning, and up to half an hour in the evening. My work / life balance, looking back, was unsustainable. A typical work day for me would be 15 to 18 hours, and sleep 4 to 6 hours. In short, I was a physical and nervous wreck.
Now that I spend far more of my time talking to people about health, balance, meditation, and have been intermittent fasting now for over six months (with a 10kg weight loss), I am back to coping with all that life throws at me, and I work far less hours than I used to.
I’m not saying it is easy, but please take small steps. Please do stop trading since you are so far out of the zone, it most likely will cause further damage. Best of luck on your journey, and wishing you a speedy recovery.
I hope you find some relief from reading the posts here. You are not alone! I’m glad you reached out and posted here. Hopefully you’re able to find someone to talk to soon. But also, yes, I agree with everyone here when they say to pause trading. Now is not the right time to be thinking about making gains when your mental health is suffering.
Sorry to hear you’re going through a tough time. Take it easy on yourself and don’t stress about trading for now. Your well-being should always come first.
Is the anxiety related to trading or something else in your life?
I understand that your trading is far from profitable, which is causing you concern. First you need rest. You need to take a break from trading and analyze what mistakes you made when trading. You may even have to change your trading strategy if there were a lot of losses when trading it. Or refine your strategy. In any case, you need to change something in your trading so that it brings profit, and not losses and worries. Then you will sleep well).
Just take a beak and pay a tour and it will all fine.
Just came back to this post, your answer has arisen from a deep deep point of wisdom and life lessons learned in years. Let me tell you that I am truly sorry for your loss, guess that’s life and it just goes as it does. And I am delighted to hear about how you have been able to get back on your feet, please believe me when I say that you are an inspiration.
Definitely we need more people like you sir. Props to you and sorry for the loss and all you had to gone through. The best advice I have heard recently was by Erling Halland that told a reporter " don’t think too much, it hurts your brain".
